Grade 3 began the session with an image provocation of a folk-art handprint. The handprint was used as a metaphor to represent capability and skills of individuals to take positive action towards being a responsible citizen. The students shared ideas about personal and shared responsibility and how their contribution and collaborative action can help make the world a better place. The students traced their handprint (as a pledge/an identity) and drew motifs that symbolize respect, compassion, responsibility and made connections with themselves and the world they live in.

For our UKG students, their family and their immediate surrounding comprises their whole world. On viewing the YouTube video ‘The more we get together’ by Rock and Learn, they identified doing fun activities with their friends in and around their home and class. The students discussed the joy of making new friends wherever they may travel in the country and around the world, and expressed their outgoing nature by drawing themselves playing joyfully with their friends.&nbsp;

All the topics were designed with the goal of expanding creativity and critical thinking, emphasis was placed on enhancing imagination and the students ability to be able to visually express and represent the subject. Stories and videos introduced on each subject sparked their interest and engaged them into wonderings and meaningful discussions. These thoughtful insights lead them into visually interpreting their understanding, so that our learners can develop the skills, knowledge and values to engage with the world as global citizens.

Grade 2 students watched a song on Diversity, ‘So many colours, so many shapes’ . They shared their thoughts about the term Diversity by giving examples such as diverse skin colour, clothes, language, food, weather etc. The students applied their individual understanding and idea of the topic and creatively expressed it through their artwork by creating a scene depicting diversity.

Self Identity - I am special

The LKG children viewed the story book ‘Be who you are’ by Todd Parr, which spoke about how each child is different. They thought about their own interests, the language they speak, food they like, and games they play, which made them unique. The students drew their self-portraits with confidence and pride, knowing they hold a special place in this world.

The Primary students of Dhirubhai Ambani International School showcased their artistic talent and creative skills by participating in the Annual Art Competition 2021. The theme for this year’s competition was “Global Citizenship”. The students used innovative ideas, explored their imagination and visually translated their ideas, thoughts and insights, and portrayed Global Citizenship through various topics such as world is our family, self-identity, empathy, diversity, responsible citizenship. The students were encouraged to use their creativity as a communication tool to create awareness and inspire the viewers. The competition was judged by the senior art teachers of the Art Department- Ms. Disha, Ms. Renu and Mr. Erwin.

Grade 4 celebrated an entire week of World Food Day. Building upon their prior knowledge we delved deeper into the topic and shared appropriate and meaningful visuals, and discussed about the fascinating world behind food and agriculture. They shared ideas on how they can make a difference and contribute towards the world through their choices and actions. As per the instructions of the poster contest by FAO, the students created their own posters on the title- Journey of Food.&nbsp;They depicted the journey of food from the farm to their table and the great effort made by the food heroes to make it possible.

The students of Grade 1 associated their extended family as their own school and class, where they spend a significant amount of time every day with their classmates and teachers. The ‘school family’, where students identified their similarities and celebrated their differences. They imagined themselves back in school together with their classmates, as they had been in LKG, as one family, one world and created their artwork.
