In science classes, our 5th graders carried out some research on the different types of sugar, the harmful effects and diseases caused by the exaggerated consumption of sugar and the real amount of sugar contained in some products. They also studied some food items that contain natural sugars and that can be consumed daily. Besides, they tried to provide some helpful tips on how to make healthy sweet recipes with little or no added sugar. Then, the students used all that information to make posters, which were displayed in their classrooms and in the school canteen, to raise awareness of the harmful effects of sugar and the importance of consuming it in moderation.
