Preparations are taking place all year round...

Πλήθος κόσμου συγκεντρώνεται,&nbsp;για να δει την αναπαράσταση της ηρωικής εκείνης μάχης, να ακούσει τα χτυπήματα των σπαθιών και τις πολεμικές ιαχές των μαχητών.&nbsp;Η μουσική συνοδεία είναι ζωηρή, δυναμική και αφυπνιστική και ο ρυθμός της τους συνεπαίρνει όλους. Στις νότες αυτής της μουσικής «χτυπά» η καρδιά κάθε Θυμιανούση. Crowds of people gather to see the reenactment of that heroic battle, to hear the clash of swords and the war cries of the combatants. The musical accompaniment is lively, dynamic and rousing and its rhythm captivates everyone. To the notes of this music, the heart of every villager of Thymiana, beats the same rythm.

Ήταν βράδυ Τυρινής Παρασκευής και,&nbsp;ενώ οι Θυμιανούσοι γλεντούσαν, έφτασε&nbsp;το νέο από τους άγρυπνους βιγλάτορες ότι πειρατικό πλοίο πλησιάζει την παραλία του Μέγα Λιμνιώνα. &nbsp;Οι Θυμιανούσοι ξεσηκώνονται και αποφασίζουν,&nbsp;αντί να κλειστούν στα τείχη, να αντιμετωπίσουν τους πειρατές. Άντρες και γυναίκες παίρνουν κυρίως εργαλεία της δουλειάς,&nbsp;λίγα κρυμμένα ξίφη&nbsp;και&nbsp;ό,τι άλλο μπορούσαν να χρησιμοποιήσουν ως&nbsp;όπλο και κατευθύνονται να στήσουν ενέδρα σ΄ένα στενό πέρασμα, &nbsp;τον Στένακα. Εκεί γίνεται φονική μάχη και οι Θυμιανούσοι κατατροπώνουν τους Πειρατές και τους ρίχνουν στη θάλασσα. Επιστρέφουν πανηγυρίζοντας στο χωριό, φωνάζοντας «Βρε, βρε, μωρή, μωρή» και, κρατώντας κλαδιά ελιάς, γλεντούν την νίκη τους. Οι αιχμάλωτοι κρεμάζονται&nbsp;- μοστράρονται για 3 μέρες στη κεντρική πλατεία του χωριού, το Λιβάδι, για να διαλαληθεί σ’ όλους η επιτυχία τους. Το γλέντι κράτησε τρεις μέρες. Η παράδοση λέει ότι από τότε δεν ξαναπάτησε το πόδι του Πειρατής!

Μετά την αναπαράσταση της μάχης και το τέλος του παραδοσιακού εθίμου ακολουθεί το Καρναβάλι μας. Ο βασιλιάς Καρνάβαλος βγαίνει να σκορπίσει χαρά και χαμόγελα και να σατιρίσει την επικαιρότητα.&nbsp;Κουδουνάτοι, άρματα με πολυάριθμα πληρώματα ακολουθούν χορεύοντας στους ρυθμούς καρναβαλικής και όχι μόνο μουσικής. Ακολουθεί παραδοσιακό νησιώτικο γλέντι στην πλατεία «Καρούλι». After the reenactment of the battle and the end of the traditional custom, our Carnival follows. King Carnival comes out to spread joy and smiles and to satirize current affairs. Bells, chariots with numerous crews follow dancing to the rhythms of carnival and not only music. This is followed by a traditional island feast in "Karouli" square.

Ο Μανόλο και ο Βαγγέλο μας μαθαίνουν τον χορό "ταλίμι"

Την Τυρινή Κυριακή&nbsp;το χωριό μας «φοράει τα καλά του»! Μεγάλοι και παιδιά, ντυμένοι Βρακάδες&nbsp;και&nbsp;Πειρατές,&nbsp;ξεκινούν το πρωί από τα ξωκκλήσια του Αγίου Δημητρίου Κτιστών και του Αγίου Ιωάννη Στενακούσων&nbsp;και, αφού παρακολουθήσουν τη λειτουργία και αποδώσουν φόρο τιμής στους νεκρούς,&nbsp;κατεβαίνουν χορεύοντας το «Ταλίμι» προς το χωριό. Στην πλατεία Βουρνού τα συνάφια συναντιούνται και ενωμένους τους υποδεχόμαστε στον κεντρικό δρόμο του χωριού.&nbsp; On Sunday of the cheesefare week, our village it at its best! Για μεγάλο χρονικό διάστημα, εθελοντές, κάθε απόγευμα, με μεράκι και αγάπη για το έθιμο,&nbsp;δουλεύουν στην&nbsp;κοινοτική αποθήκη και στο κτήριο του Μ.Ε.Ο.Θ., για να φτιάξουν τα κουστούμια των πληρωμάτων και τα ευφάνταστα άρματα. Ταυτόχρονα,&nbsp;με μαθήματα του χορού «Ταλίμι» και του «Δετού», αλλά και μουσικών οργάνων (παγιαύλι και τουμπί) διασφαλίζεται η&nbsp;συνέχεια του εθίμου, από γενιά σε γενιά.&nbsp;Κέφι, διάθεση για προσφορά, συνάμα με αγωνία και ευθύνη, είναι τα συναισθήματα που κυριαρχούν. ΙΣΤΟΡΙΑ ΤΟΥ ΕΘΙΜΟΥ Βρισκόμαστε στον Μεσαίωνα... Ήταν τότε που η Βυζαντινή Αυτοκρατορία είχε υποστείλει τους «Αετούς» της και η Γαληνότατη Αυτοκρατορία της Βενετίας και της Γένοβας, αν και κυρίαρχες πολλών παράκτιων περιοχών της Ελλάδας και νησιών, αδυνατούσαν να τις προφυλάξουν από τις επιθέσεις των πειρατών που λυμαίνονταν τα παράλια. Οι νησιώτες, εκτός των κατακτητών, είχαν να παλέψουν και με τη ληστοσυμμορία των Μπερμπερίνων Πειρατών που κατοικούσαν στα Βόρεια παράλια της Αφρικής. Έκαναν επιδρομές, έσφαζαν και λεηλατούσαν και, ακόμα χειρότερα, έπαιρναν αιχμάλωτους που τους πουλούσαν στα σκλαβοπάζαρα. HISTORY OF THE CUSTOM We are in the Middle Ages... It was then that the Byzantine Empire restricted its aggresiveness as a conqueror because the Empire of Venice and Genoa became rulers of many coastal areas of Greece and islands. The Byzantine Empire was unable to protect those areas from the attacks of the pirates. The islanders, apart from the conquerors, also had to fight with the gang of Berber Pirates who lived on the North coast of Africa. They raided, slaughtered and looted and, even worse, took captives who were sold in the slave markets.

The true story behind the "talimi" Sotiris.l:If you were real pirates what would your name be? Vangelo: Vanelis Manolo: Manolo Teacher: Is there any real story behind the "talimi"? Manolo: All references to Mostra and Talimi have been handed down to us by word of mouth since the Middle Ages. The first written reference is from about 1910 and an earlier one, which I am not sure about, is from the 1880s. It is said that if someone who knows Turkish researches further back, they may find other older written references. The truth behind the talimi is that indeed the pirates plundered all the coasts of the Aegean, not only Chios and other islands and in general also in mainland Greece.

It was the evening of Friday of the Cheesefare week and, while the villagers were having a feast, the news arrived from the vigilant vigilators that a pirate ship was approaching the beach of "Mega Limniona". The villagers of Thymiana, decide, instead of closing themselves in the walls, to face the pirates. Men and women take mostly work tools, a few hidden swords and whatever else they could use as a weapon and head to ambush a narrow passage named "Stenakas" There is a deadly battle and the Thimianousi defeat the Pirates and throw them into the sea. They return celebrating to the village, shouting "Bre, bre, mori, mori" and, holding olive branches, celebrate their victory. The captives are hanged - they are displayed for 3 days in the central square of the village, Livadi, so that their success can be announced to everyone. The feast lasted three days. Tradition has it that since then the Pirate never set foot again!

Από την Μόστρα των Θυμιανών 2023 00017

Στα Θυμιανά, για να αντιμετωπίσουν τις επιδρομές, όπως σε όλα τα μαστιχοχώρια, φρόντιζαν να χτίσουν τα σπίτια περιφερειακά κολλητά με μεσοτοιχία, ώστε να δημιουργούν ένα είδος κάστρου και με μικρά παράθυρα, για να λειτουργούν σε ώρα ανάγκης σαν πολεμίστρες. Οι τρεις πόρτες του χωριού το πρωί άνοιγαν και το βράδυ έκλειναν. Δυστυχώς, μετά τον σεισμό του 1881 ,το χωριό υπέστη καταστροφές και μόνο η περιοχή «Βότες» μαρτυρεί σήμερα το παρελθόν. In Thymiana, in order to face the raids, as in all mastic villages, they made sure to build the houses peripherally attached with partition walls, so as to create a kind of castle and with small windows which were used to as battlements in times of need. The three doors of the village were opened in the morning and closed at night. Unfortunately, after the earthquake of 1881, the village was destroyed and only the "Votes" area today bears witness to the past.

Το γέλιο μας, η θετική άποψη για τη ζωή και η περιπαιχτική διάθεση είναι μία τονωτική ένεση, μία αισιόδοξη νότα και μία χαρούμενη ανάπαυλα στην καθημερινότητα!!! "Κουδουνάτοι" ντυμένοι με ποικιλόμορφα ρούχα και έχοντας καλυμμένο το πρόσωπο με μουτσούνες (μάσκες), για να κρύβουν την πραγματική τους ταυτότητα, κρατούν ξύλα, μπαστούνια, μαγκούρες για να χορέψουν το «Ταλίμι», όπως είθισται, και περιφέρονται ανάμεσα στον κόσμο με πειράγματα και αστεία. Ταλίμι με ...τσαλίμι στο σχολείο! Πειρατές και βρακάδες συγκρούστηκαν...χορευτικά σήμερα στο σχολείο μας όταν εμφανίστηκε ο "πειρατής" Μανώλης Κωνσταντάς και ο "βρακάς" Βαγγέλης Μπολάκης και δίδαξαν τον παραδοσιακό χορό της Μόστρας Θυμιανών ως εκπρόσωποι του ΜΕΟΘ! Προηγήθηκε η μουσειοσκευή του ΜΕΟΘ και η ενημέρωση των παιδιών για την αλήθεια πίσω από το έθιμο (πειρατεία, βίγλες,φρυκτωρίες)από το πολύ ωραίο υλικό που εστάλη και ένα μπαούλο γεμάτο στολές και ξύλινα σπαθιά. Ήρθε και ο Σύλλογος Γονέων που είχε την πολύ ωραία πρωτοβουλία να κατασκευάσει μονόφθαλμες πειρατικές μάσκες για όλα τα παιδιά και έγινε μεγάλο γλέντι ανά τάξη ως το μεσημέρι. It was preceded by the museum equipment of the M.E.O.TH. and the information of the children about the truth behind the custom (piracy, vigils, friktorias) from the very nice material that was sent and a chest full of uniforms and wooden swords. The Parents' Association also came, which had the very nice initiative of making one-eyed pirate masks for all the children, and there was a big party per class until noon.
