PRINCIPAL'S DESK

Dear Parents and Students,

We have updated our curriculum to include knowledge that will be at a premium in the future, such as Coding, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, etc. Data from the 2018 Deloitte Millennial Survey shows that the most important skills, we will need for tomorrow include confidence, ethical aptitude and interpersonal skills. This year we have given high priority to Soft Skills and have introduced the 'Dialog Series' as part of the Conversation Lessons in Classes I-VIII. The speaking skills are assessed and the marks and grades are reflected in the Holistic Progress Cards.

Our teachers are moulding our students for a rapidly changing world and are focused on developing their learners’ motivation to enable learning. It is when the learners end up doing the work that they will learn and understand the concept. As the common adage goes, "Whoever does the work, does the learning! ".

The Competency Based Assessment systems test not only knowledge but also Soft Skills as well as the Application of Knowledge. This has resulted in a progressive model where the learning is both deeper as well as holistic. We have incorporated progressive pedagogy such as Problem-based Learning (PBL), Inquiry-based Learning and Experiential Learning.
We had an auspicious beginning of the new Academic Session with diverse programmes to enrich our students with Learning Skills and Life Skills. The June issue of Newscast will take you through these initiatives. Happy Reading to All!

EXORDIUM 2023-24

The reopening of the school and initiation ceremony was held on 1 June, 2023 at 9:00 am. The programme began with lighting of the lamp by various dignitaries. The students of classes VIII and IX performed the Welcome Dance. The Principal, Ms. Suma Paul in her Welcome Speech, spoke about the new initiatives with specific emphasis on Skill Education. Juvanna D’costa of class X did the Bible reading which was followed by the intercessory prayers. Very Rev. Fr. Jacob Baiju Ben led the prayer by invoking God's blessing. The new teachers’ Induction Ceremony was also held along with the offertory made by the students. The theme – ‘Emerging skills for an ever-evolving world was unveiled through a skit. Gaadha Amal Nair of class XII delivered the Vote of Thanks ending on a note of positivity and hope.

FOCUS 2023

It was organized by Harvesters of Peace & Navigators of Jesus, an interparish Catholic lay movement under the spiritual animation of Franciscan Friars in the Diocese of Cochin. The sessions were led by Rev. Fr. Dominic OFM. The sessions were rejuvenating for the students and helped them to imbibe values and virtues to become productive members of society.

EXERCISE DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS

The School Election was held on 16 June, 2023. The ‘Meet the Candidate’ was conducted prior to it and during this, the School Principal, Ms. Suma Paul addressed the students and the candidates. 6 nominees for School Captaincy and 5 nominees for School Vice Captaincy gave their respective speeches. The candidates declared their loyalty to the school and to the office that they are contesting for. All of the candidates proved their mettle during the Meet the Candidate programme. Students were made aware of certain guidelines and norms to be followed while casting the vote. The candidates campaigned during the break. The nominees for the post of captaincy were Abin Vinoy, Ann Mary Evusevius, Arwin Augustine K W, Nandhana Sangeeth, Devi Sreekanth Pillai and Veer J Bhagat. The nominees for Vice-Captaincy were Aleena Jojo, Amin Fathima, Della Maria Bliss, Gia Jobin and Mihit Krishnakumar.
The voting was done on the Election Software installed in the Computer Labs. The e-ballet boxes were opened immediately after the elections and the total count was taken. The results were declared at 10:30 a.m.

The Investiture Ceremony and Laureate 2023 was held with much pomp and zest on 21 June. The bright young leaders stood shoulder to shoulder, flags waving above their heads. Ms. Suma Paul, the Principal, welcomed the gathering to the auspicious occasion. The audience witnessed the slow march by the new leaders down the red-carpeted aisle who marched forward with great determination to take up the responsibility from their previous counterparts. In the oath-taking ceremony that followed, each leader made a promise to themselves and the student body to drive forward this glorious institution in every possible. The Chief Guest of the day, Cmde Ben H Berson, Director NIETT along with his wife, Mrs. Princy Berson, conferred the captains with badges, making their roles official. The Captains of the year 2022-23 were honoured for their relentless service to the school in the previous academic year. The top scorers of AISSE and AISSCE 2023 were awarded trophies and certificates. Awards for outstanding achievements in Sports and General Proficiency were also handed over to the achievers. The Chief Guest addressed the audience and urged the students to rise to higher levels. The school magazine, 'Assisi Unleashing Talents' was released by the Chief Guest and the first copy was handed over to the Director. Everyone was in the brightest of spirits, especially, the Student Council who made a promise to work together and leave a mark on all.

BEAT PLASTIC POLLUTION

The Environment Day on June 5, commenced with a special assembly conducted by class VIII A. A speech was delivered on the theme. A special pledge based on Environment Day was also taken as an oath by all. An eye-opening awareness message was delivered by our beloved Principal, Ms. Suma Paul. A street play based on environment day awareness was also performed by the students. Badges with the message based on World Environment Day were prepared by the students of classes VI, VII, VIII, IX &XI. A host of activities were organized for the students. A nature walk was organized for classes III & IV. As an initiative for a better future, students of class V designed cloth bags promoting the ban on plastic bags. Poster making on the same theme was held for the students of classes X & XII. To extend the love for Mother Nature, the saplings were planted by the Management and Teacher representatives.
