PRINCIPAL'S DESK

Dear Parents and Students,

Values are our belief system; it determines what is good and what is not. They exert influence on our behaviour. We try to embrace values in conform with those of our parents and also form our values. One hurdle here is that youngsters are socially vulnerable because, as they develop their beliefs, attitudes, and values, the influence of media and negative experiences with adults and peers may compromise their ideals and values. They are increasingly aware of and concerned about inconsistencies between values taught by elders and the conditions they see in society.
Here are a few questions to ask yourself when you have to make a decision or choose the right path.
1. What does my heart and conscience tell me?
2. Could my action hurt anyone - including me?
3. Is it fair? How would I feel if someone did it to me?
4. How would I feel later, if I did it?
5. What would adults whom I respect will say about it?
The basic element of respect for all people is shown by avoiding violent and abusive language, interacting with consideration for others' needs and accepting that people are unique and have different beliefs and values.

The highlights of this month are the Talent Fest and the Attipetty Badminton Tournament. Both these helped the students to unleash their talents and better their performances.

BE GENEROUS IN GIVING!

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”

The Interact Club of our school and GOONJ, an NGO working for the upliftment of the community jointly organized a collection drive in the Assisi Campus. The number of things that were contributed exceeded our expectations and filled up our drop-out location quickly every day. The materials our contributors donated include clothes for children, board games, toys, new crockery and a lot more. Let's keep up with this spirit and do our best to improve the lives of the less privileged.

SAVOUR ON THE YUMMY FLAVOURS FOR A CAUSE!

"Ice cream is a sweet reminder of childhood."
The Interact Club of our School organized an Ice Cream sale as part of the Onam celebrations in the Assisi Campus. The response was quite overwhelming. On the day of the sale, all classes purchased the tokens that the interactors had prepared the day before. Three flavours of Ice Cream - Mango, Green Apple and Raspberry were sold for Rs. 20/- each. The interactors brought the students to the canteen where they relished the tasty ice cream. Future Interact Club projects for charity will be funded with the profit received from the sale.

REACHING OUT TO THE COMMUNITY!

As part of our community outreach programme, the students of class Vll A visited Karunalayam old-age Home, Mundapalam, Thrikkakara. Karunalayam is a rehabilitation centre, an old age home shelter for the old and poor people whose families have abandoned them. Accompanied by the class teacher, Nyji Joseph the students started from school at 10 a.m. and reached back by 12:10 p.m. The reception of the nuns and inmates was heartwarming. Our students had the opportunity to interact with residents and generously distributed the First-aid and toiletries they had collected. The recipients were delighted and the sisters expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the students. The students entertained them by singing and dancing. The residents were overjoyed and expressed their love and gratitude. The visit to this renowned organisation made the children aware and insightful about the rehabilitation programme and they will hopefully become socially responsible citizens in the future.

LEARN SPELLING IN A FUN WAY!

The Inter-House Spell Bee Competition was organized on 5 August 2023 in the school Conference Hall, for classes V-VII. This competition was one of the numerous enjoyable competitions that give students a platform to learn spellings in different ways.
The rounds for the competition were as follows:
Round I: SPELL-TACULAR
Round II: GRID ROUND
Round III: FUN BRAIN
Round IV: SPELLEGRINOS
There were three participants from each house and the winner was YELLOW HOUSE, the First runner-up was the GREEN HOUSE and the Second runner-up, was BLUE HOUSE. The competition was successfully conducted with the support of the IT team.

IN THE TRUE SPORTSMAN SPIRIT!

The 18th Archibishop Joseph Attipetty Memorial All Kerala Interschool Badminton Tournament was conducted on 8 and 9 of August 2023. The competition was inaugurated by Mr. Joy T. Antony, an International Badminton player and coach. In an exhilarating performance, 33 schools participated under different categories. The students involved themselves in a healthy and fierce competition. The overall championship was bagged by Assisi Vidyaniketan Public School, Chembumukku. The Runners-Up Trophy was shared by Bhavans Eroor and Bhavans Elamakkara. The Valedictory Ceremony was conducted on 9 August and the Chief Guest was the renowned former Indian Football team Captain and Arjuna awardee, Mr. I M Vijayan. The initiative of Assisi to provide a platform to students in the era when sports has become an integral part of education proved to be a grand success.
