Welcome
from Esther Cook, Director
Dear Colleagues,
The commitment to professional development seen across our sector continues to be a source of great encouragement and pride. Thank you to all those mentors, ECTs, coaches, delegates, inductor tutors, headteachers and wider colleagues who have engaged in continuing to develop teacher practice for the sake of our learners.
This term we celebrate the hundreds of ECTs who are on the ‘final stretch’ of their ECT phase. We are looking forward to continuing to celebrate with you as you move on to the next part of your professional journey.
Our ECT programme is superbly run by Jodie Byham, and it is indicative of her success that so many colleagues across our partnership rely on Jodie’s knowledge and expertise. I want to take this opportunity to wish Jodie well as she starts her maternity leave, and look forward to hearing news of her new arrival in the coming weeks!
Whilst Jodie is away, Catherine Root, our fantastic AB lead, will be stepping up as interim Head of Early Career Teacher Training. Catherine has already had a significant impact in her leadership of our Appropriate Body offer, and will be running several training events for Induction Tutors and Mentors over the coming weeks.
Catherine will be very ably supported during Jodie’s absence by Anna Sheldrick. Anna has worked in schools in Wales, the North East and South East. She has held various whole-school roles focusing on Teaching and Learning and led on teacher training and ECTs more recently. Anna is thrilled to be joining the Thames Gateway team and working on driving staff professional development further for the good of young people. She will hold particular responsibility for the implementation of our ECF based training programme.
As the busy exam season for both primary and secondary colleagues arrives, we wish you well, and look forward to continuing to work with you to provide professional development which shapes the lives of your learners.

Feedback received from our recent ECT Mentor sessions :
Helpful for mentors to meet together to discuss problems/successes with the program. Great for CPD. Improved my practice as a mentor/leader. Felt supported by other members of staff on the course. Good to share experiences.
I found today's local group session really helpful. It was the right balance of people's own experiences and thoughts as well structured prompts and conversations. It felt a really positive and productive session, thank you.
I enjoyed having the face to face session and sharing everyone's experiences both positive and constructive. Thank you
This has been a worth while experience and it has been great to see the ECTs grow
Session was structured and delivered well in a manner that was clear and concise.
Both in person course facilitators were really good.

NPQ - Participant feedback
This is the most organised thing I have ever come across in education, and I am really appreciating how well planned it is. The good planning makes it easy for me to learn and that in turn makes me keen to improve.
The webinars and face to face sessions are great for networking and getting the perspective from other schools. Having only recently started the role in leadership it is valuable to hear the experiences of others.
Facilitation - the facilitators are making us feel welcomed and valued. It is a subtle skill to pull off but they manage it discreetly, giving space for our thinking.
Lots of opportunity within sessions to pose personal challenges or successes which allows for better reflection and learning of new strategies.
I always look forward to the Face to Face days. Here, I know I can chat about any worries or concerns but also, discussing the topics/ scenarios with professionals from other settings, is invaluable.
Having the chance to reflect has also been very useful and then being given the chance to discuss topics with my coach has really helped.
The facilitators are knowledgeable and draw from their own experiences to provide personal examples to illustrate concepts and ideas discussed.
