Welcome

We start this bulletin with exciting news of our new ‘Head Quarters’. As of this term we have officially moved out of Leigh Academy Rainham and into Strood Academy. We are delighted to be joining Jon Richardson and his amazing team at Strood, and feel very lucky to have had such a warm welcome from staff and students alike. We look forward to welcoming existing and new delegates and partners through the doors.

This is a busy module for us, with ECF registration for September 2024 starters and NPQ recruitment for the October 2024 cohorts, in addition to our Appropriate Body work to sign off more than 330 new teachers into the profession.

We are very proud of the work and partnerships we have across Medway, Gravesham, Dartford and the wider Kent region and thank all who have worked with us, be that as a delegate, facilitator or partner.

We hope that this bulletin will give you a comprehensive overview of our offer and plans for 2024/25. As always if you have any queries or need advice we are only a phone call or email away.

School Leader Satisfaction Survey

Thank you so much for your partnership and support this academic year. It is a tremendous privilege to work with so many of you.

We are sending our end of year 'School Leader Satisfaction Survey' to all Headteachers of a school where any part of our work has been accessed. As well as being essential for our internal planning, feedback from these surveys forms a key component of our progress against the DfE's Key Performance Indicators.

We would therefore be extremely grateful if one senior leader from each school please complete this survey and respond by 9am on Friday 5th July. This will allow the analysis, particularly of part 2 of the form, to be shared with DfE. These forms are required to be anonymous, however, if you would like to provide any further feedback, or to discuss your submission, please do contact me directly (faye.mcgill@tgtsh.org.uk).

Celebration

We are delighted to share the news that following their recent Ofsted inspection LLSE have been recognised as an Outstanding provider of NPQs! The report opens with 'Excellence permeates every aspect of LLSE's work' and we couldn't agree more!

I am sure you will join us in congratulating Kate Wilson, Nicola Taylor, and the whole team at LLSE on this well deserved achievement, and likewise I know I speak for LLSE in acknowledging the huge amount that teachers, leaders and organisations across Kent have contributed to their journey, from a local training company to an Outstanding national provider.

As LLSE's biggest delivery partner for NPQs we are lucky to have played a role in their success and very much look forward to continuing and expanding our partnership with them.

Appropriate Body

We would like to extend a massive thank you to everyone in schools who has worked with ECTs this year. We do not underestimate the time and effort that supporting these colleagues takes but also know that your mentoring, assessment and support is invaluable in shaping teachers of the future! Thank you!

Reports
For most ECTs the next report deadline is the 5th July. Please ensure that you give yourself time to complete the report and for your ECT to write their comment. Please also bear in mind that for end of year 1 and final assessments, the Headteacher needs to add their signature before submission. It is vital that the deadline is met in order for us to meet our DfE deadlines.

New Induction Tutors
We will be running online training for those new to the role of Induction Tutor or for anyone who would like a refresher! The training is on Tuesday 9th July at 3.40pm. If you would like to attend this training or request a recording please use this booking form link to do so.

New Mentors
We will also be running online training for anyone new to the mentoring role in school. This training is scheduled for Tuesday 16th July at 3.40pm. Please use this booking link to attend or request a recording of the session.

Registration For 2024-2025
Registration for ECTs joining schools in September 2024 will open on 24th June 2024. Please see the Early Career Framework section for more information regarding this.

Early Career Framework

We are delighted that Jodie Byham has returned from maternity leave and welcome her back as Head of Early Career Framework. We are also happy to announce that Anna Sheldrick will continue to be a member of the TGTSH team, working on quality assurance across the business.

Term 6 is a busy term for both ECT and Mentor Events, please check your online learning platforms carefully to ensure you don’t miss any of your scheduled events or email sophie.jarrett@tgtsh.org.uk if you are unsure.

Registration for ECTs joining schools in September 2024 will open on 24th June 2024. We will be sending further communications about any changes to registration instructions as soon as they are confirmed by the Department for Education and will host a range of drop in sessions for Headteachers / Induction Tutors & Mentors to attend to ensure you are supported throughout the process.

National Professional Qualifications

Exciting times are ahead as we look forward to the new NPQ SENCO joining the suite of courses we offer in conjunction with our partners at LLSE and Teach First.

Cohorts will start in October 2024, but there are some changes to the funding of NPQs that need to be factored in to any applications made. To summarise and try to simplify the new funding we know that fully funded places will be granted in two ways -

Leading Primary Maths, Headship and the new Senco NPQ are fully funded for all schools, with the caveat that the DFE will cap places.

In addition to the above all of the other NPQs are funded if your school falls in to the top 50% of schools for Pupil Premium, the DFE are set to publish a list of these schools in the coming weeks, but we are happy to have conservations with you regarding the likelihood of your school being on the list, again this comes with the caveat that the DFE will cap places.

It is therefore ESSENTIAL that applications are started as soon as possible to ensure you have the best chance of gaining a funded place, this can be done here or for Leading Literacy, Early Years Leadership and SENCO you need to register your interest here.

Whist the landscape of funding is changing we can still guarantee our friendly and helpful team will be on hand to support you from application to assessment and our expert team of facilitators will help guide and shape your learning - so don’t delay and apply today!

We currently have vacancies for facilitators for NPQH and NPQLBC with a particular need for secondary colleagues. Please register your interest via this google form if you are interested in working with us as an NPQ facilitator.

KMT recruitment update

Recruitment for this cycle is set to close at the end of July 2024.
This is your last opportunity to request subjects/phases, and for internal staff to apply for employment-based training routes

We offer the full range of pathways across our partnership schools including:

Fee Funded (School Direct Unsalaried) with optional PGCE
Employment based (Including the Post Graduate Teacher Apprenticeship and School Direct Salaried)
Primary and Secondary courses, including the full range of secondary subjects
Flexible training including a 4-day per week programme (from September 2025)

Teacher Apprenticeships update

Schools that pay into the Apprenticeship Levy can have the cost of tuition fees fully covered on the Teacher Apprenticeship route, saving them £7495 per trainee. Schools that do not pay into the levy can instead pay a co-investment, which is a maximum of £450 for their apprentice’s tuition fees.
Teacher Apprentices must be paid on UQ1 on a fixed term 15-month contract commencing in August.
Teacher Apprentices begin the programme with all other ATs at induction, will be awarded QTS 12 months later, begin their ECT year in September ‘25 and will complete the End Point Assessment by Nov ‘25. Their timetable, mentoring and PPA is the same as any other ECT in the September to November period.
During the training year, they must meet the same programme requirements as all other ATs, including Thursday release time, a B placement, ITAPs and a maximum 70% teaching timetable.
Teacher Apprentices must be provided with a suitably qualified school-based mentor.
All existing eligibility criteria apply regarding GCSEs, degrees and right to work.
