Welcome
Dear Colleagues,
As we move into Term 6, I’m sure we are all focused on completing this year’s aims, whilst preparing for the coming year. It is no different in the Thames Gateway TSH office, where our plans for the coming academic year are well underway, all of which are outlined in this Bulletin.
As we enter this new season, you will find a special announcement explaining the launch of The Leigh Institute. We in Thames Gateway TSH are delighted to be partnering with our sister organisations of KMT, Kent & Medway Maths Hub and LAT Apprenticeships to provide a joined up approach to the Professional Development of all our staff. We will keep you updated as plans progress.
I feel extremely privileged to have been appointed as the inaugural Director of The Leigh Institute, which means I am handing over leadership of Thames Gateway TSH to Faye McGill. I’d like to congratulate Faye on her appointment as Deputy Director of The Leigh Institute and Head of Thames Gateway TSH. Faye has a long track record of system leadership and her impact in leading our NPQ and CPD programmes is already highly valued. I look forward to working with her and with you all as our highly valued collaborative partners.
Very best wishes,
Esther Cook

Having worked alongside Esther since the beginning of our Teaching School Hub journey it is a great privileged to take on the leadership of Thames Gateway and to be supporting Esther as we launch The Leigh Institute, we look forward to continuing to support our schools and the communities you serve.
We are doing all we can to make sure that you have all the information you need to make for a smooth start to 2023/24 Academic year. Applications for all NPQs will remain open over the Summer to avoid the ‘last minute’ rush for places and key dates for ECT events will be shared to support your planning and preparation, more details of this can be found within the bulletin.
Thank you for your continued support, I wish you a restful and sunshine filled Summer break, and look forward to continuing to work with you in 23/24.

The Leigh Institute.
This umbrella organisation joins together the work of four high performing organisations, each serving to provide high quality professional development opportunities for the benefit of our partners and their communities. Together we recognise that the work of our staff is vital to the success of our schools and businesses.

Alongside these many and varied pathways, through our apprenticeship programmes, we are able to provide high quality training for colleagues working in IT, Business Administration, Premises support as well as TAs.
We are also proud to share with you the following announcements, welcoming our Director and Deputy Directors. Polly and Faye join Janine Allen (Maths Hub Lead) and Laura Stratton and Stuart Russell (LAT Apprenticeships), as our inaugural executive team.

National Professional Qualifications
We are delighted that we already have over 100 applications for our NPQs in 2023/24. The application window will stay open over the Summer break to allow you to apply before the September ‘return to school’ rush. All NPQs can be applied for here.
February 2024 will see the first cohort of our NPQ Primary Maths, we are excited about the prospect of delivering this new course in conjunction with the Maths Hub. Please follow our social media @tg_tsh to find out more information.
In response to delegate feedback we are pleased to announce the introduction of a number of bespoke offers -
NPQLT for colleagues who want to join a cohort specifically for staff in Special Schools
and
NPQLTD for colleagues who want to join a cohort specifically for ECF mentors
Whilst Thames Gateway TSH and LLSE strongly advocate joining cross phase cohorts, in response to delegate feedback, we are also looking to pilot some courses that will be phase specific, for example Primary NPQLT.
All of the above will be subject to recruitment numbers, please indicate your preference in the application process, so that we can ensure you are allocated to the correct cohort.
We are also pleased to announce that we will be running NPQLT aimed at higher level teaching support staff, please find out more here.
Finally a reminder that the Academic year 23/24 is the last year of confirmed DFE funding for all NPQ courses. We will be running October 23 and February 24 cohorts across the county working alongside our existing cluster partners, EKLA, Concordia, Swale Academies Trust and Gravesham Learning Partnership, and welcoming new clusters from The Golden Thread Trust and KSENT, ensuring you have local access to LLSE NPQs from Dartford to Dover.
As we reach the end of this academic year, we would like to thank our team of highly skilled facilitators for all that they do to support our NPQ participants. If you are interested in finding out more about facilitating with us please contact faye.mcgill@tgtsh.org.uk.

Appropriate Body
TGTSH AB would like to thank schools for their continued hard work and support of ECTs. ECTs get amazing experiences and development opportunities because of you!
Registration
The DfE is in the process of piloting a new registration process for September registrations. Please therefore do not register any ECTs for September until early July. We will contact you with full instructions and to let you know the exact date from which you can register once we know what this looks like.
Assessments
The report window will open on Thursday 8 June. The deadline for reports is Friday 7 July. Please remember that this deadline includes the time needed for the ECT to comment and sign and in the case of assessments for your headteacher to sign also. It is vital that you meet this deadline in order for TGTSH to report progress to the DfE on time.
At this point there are 3 types of report that might appear:
1. A progress review (for an ECT in terms 1,2,4 or 5 of induction)
2. An end of year 1 assessment (for an ECT at the end of term 3 ie end of year 1)
3. A final assessment (for an ECT at the end of induction ie at the end of 2 years or on an agreed reduction)
If for any reason you think that the wrong report is showing, please contact catherine.root@tgtsh.org.uk for checking. We ask also that an ECT's progress is discussed with them before the report is submitted so that there are no surprises for them.
