Dear Colleagues,

Happy New Year! Although current circumstances have made a temporary return to online delivery necessary, we are delighted to begin 2022 working with so many colleagues and schools across our region.

Our 400 (plus) fantastic Early Career Teachers have already completed Progress Review 1 and are making excellent progress through the Early Career Framework Full Induction Programme. Our Regional Conferences promise to be a highlight in the calendar and we are excited by all we have to offer you at these events.

We are thrilled that over 650 of you are investing in your professional development through embarking on an NPQ programme. The opportunity to complete a course whilst it is fully funded by DfE (for all state schools) is one which cannot be missed. We have also begun the work of looking at even closer links between the various strands of our offer, drawing the ‘golden thread’ from ITT, through ECF and into NPQ delivery.

We are particularly grateful for those fantastic leaders who are taking on facilitation responsibilities with us. It is a joy to work with you!

As we continue to embed these opportunities, we are grateful for your partnership and feedback. Please do stay in touch and let us know how you are finding these programmes. We’re always looking for new ways to support our schools and to work together to provide colleagues with the tools they need to continue to give our children the very best educational experiences. Regional Conferences

NEW DATES:
Live Mentor Conference: Tuesday 8th March 2022

Earlier this term we made the difficult decision to postpone our face to face Regional Conferences. All Mentors and ECT’s can book onto either the Online Conference date or the rearranged Live Conference date via the 'Events' tab on your EDT Platform.

We now have a network of over 400 ECT’s and 400 Mentors partnering with us and Education Development Trust and look forward to working with you all during these conferences in the next few months.

EY ECT Survey

Our colleagues at the TSHC team are looking into how the ECF has impacted practitioners in the Early Years. If you would like to provide your thoughts in relation to this please find the survey link here.

TGTSH would like to extend a warm welcome to our new colleagues joining us for ECT Induction beginning in January 2022.

All ECT’s starting before December 2021 will now have received their first assessment in the form of a Progress Review. These are being reviewed by the Thames Gateway Team and we have thoroughly enjoyed reading about all the successes of our ECT’s over a very challenging first full term of teaching.

If you have a new ECT joining you, please follow the steps listed here to ensure they are fully registered for their Induction.

National Professional Qualifications

Demand for the NPQ courses across Kent remains very high, with over 650 applications for courses in this academic year. We are delighted to be working with partners across the county to ensure high quality facilitation and learning experiences to so many teachers and leaders.

The deadline for the February cohorts is Friday 21st January, with the majority of courses due to start in late February/ early March. There is still time to apply, and you can do so by following this link.

All courses are fully funded for teachers and leaders who work in state funded schools and state funded organisations that offer 16-19 places in England.

As we look to next year, we are excited to confirm that we will be offering the new NPQ courses from September 2022 - Leading Early Years and Leading Literacy. We will provide you with more details of the course content as we receive them from the DFE.

Lastly, we are fully staffed for facilitators this academic year, but if you are a senior leader or head teacher who is interested in joining our team for the 22/23 cohorts or joining the facilitator team for the new NPQs mentioned above please contact faye.mcgill@tgtsh.org.uk

CPD Opportunities delivered in partnership with Teacher Training UK

Online Webinar with Andy Griffith - Developing Cultural Capital

25 January 2022, 4.30 - 6.00 pm

Do teachers understand what cultural capital is? Do Ofsted? Sadly, the education system in the UK is still failing many children and families. Recent analysis suggests that social mobility, once something that helped working-class people, is now stagnant. So what can schools practically do to help to address this?

In this session, Andy Griffith will offer insights as to how to best develop and extend your current provision so that you have a clear narrative around how your school contributes to closing the gaps that stem from disadvantage and building social justice.

The session will help you to develop a robust plan for developing Cultural Capital. It will examine effective in-class and in-school strategies that can enlighten students and help to give them more aspirations as well as ideas for better parental engagement.

There are currently fewer opportunities for educational visits etc. but now might be the perfect time to plan for the future. How, in the next few years, will students learn more about other cultures, music, art, literature, the environment and aspects of life outside of their current worldview. Isn’t that the true purpose of education – to open up the world for children and not to make them feel somehow inferior?

This workshop is facilitated by Giles Osborne who is currently a Lead Academy Improvement Partner and an ex Principal at a secondary school in London. He has worked in a range of good and outstanding schools and was formerly an advisor to Kent LEA and a Senior University Lecturer at Brighton, Cambridge and Canterbury Christ Church. He is a national trainer for ASP and is currently supporting academy chains on preparation for Ofsted and data strategy, as well as working with a range of alternative provisions. He is also the co-creator of ‘TEAM’, the National Database for SEMH schools and PRUs, and a national bench marking tool and progress model.
