Welcome

Dear Colleagues,

As we rapidly move towards Christmas, the various elements of our offer have continued to grow and develop in breadth and depth. We are incredibly grateful to school leaders across the region who have given their time to ensure that colleagues are able to access the benefits which our fully funded, evidence led programmes have to offer. It has been really exciting to see the progress colleagues are making through the ECF programme and to start to welcome you all to face to face events. Our NPQ Induction events have also been very well received and we eagerly anticipate hearing the impact of these programmes as first delivery begins.

As we come to the latter part of term, we will embark on the first round of progress reviews with our ECTs. We look forward to working on this activity with our partners and to hearing your feedback on the process.

As we embed our core activities, we are grateful for the framework provided by our vision and values. As we together implement these evidence based opportunities I would reflect on our shared commitment to embrace research led practice. Of particular note in the past few weeks has been the distribution of this report, published by the EEF on Effective Professional Development. As its forward sets out, it “provides a new guiding set of principles to ensure that PD is as effective as possible in order to improve pupil outcomes.” This mandate is at the heart of our practice.

Please do stay in touch, your feedback is essential in ensuring we continue to fully support you and together meet our shared aims to positively shape the lives of the learners in our care.

Early Career Framework

Mentors and ECT will have received their invitation to attend their regional conferences in January 2022.

The full day agenda will be shared in email communication and booking onto the events will be available via the Education Development Trust Platform: https://ecf.eddevtrust.com/login/index.php

The dates for these events are as follows:

ECT Regional Conference dates:
LIVE Conference: Tuesday 25th January 2022; 9am - 4pm

Online Conference: Friday 28th January 2022; 9am- 12.30pm with additional 2.5 hours of self study materials.

Mentor Regional Conference dates:
LIVE Conference: Wednesday 19th January 2022; 9am - 2.30pm

Online Conference: Friday 21st January 2022; 9.30am- 12.30pm with additional 1.5 hours of self study materials.

Thank you to all Induction Tutors who joined us on Wednesday 10 November for their information event and Q & A session. If you would like a recording and key documents from this session please email enquiries@tgtsh.org.uk.

For any ECT’s joining you after 1st September 2021, they will still need to be registered on the DfE ‘Manage Training for ECT’s’ Portal. These ECT’s will join a later cohort of starters and have their training delivered directly from Education Development Trust. Please notify us at TGTSH so we can fully support you and them whilst they are on boarded onto the Early Career Framework. These ECT’s are more than welcome to join us at the Regional Events as well.

Appropriate Body

Please pass on our congratulations to all ECT’s starting in September 2021, on successfully completing their first half term of Induction. Their first written feedback on their progress is a ‘Progress Review Report’ which is due for submission in December, Induction Tutors are now able to start completing this on ‘ECT Manager’. If you would like further support about how to write a Progress Review, please find guidance here.

If you have an ECT joining you this term, please ensure you register them on ECT Manager and let us know so we can ensure they join the January ECT cohort for appropriate body purposes.

National Professional Qualifications

We are delighted that over 400 teachers and leaders across Kent have chosen to complete their National Professional Qualification with Thames Gateway TSH and Leadership Learning South East.

Monday 15 November saw the start of two weeks of induction events where we welcomed participants on to their leadership journey and provided the opportunity for them to ask any questions they may have to our team of highly skilled facilitators.

We are excited to be working across the County and forging strong partnerships with clusters of schools to ensure that we can deliver high quality training in a range of locations that include Medway, Gravesham, Dartford, Tenterden, Maidstone and Canterbury.

While the deadline has passed to start an NPQ in 2021, the application process remains live for the February 2022 cohorts. If you are interested in finding out more about the suite of NPQs please contact faye.mcgill@tgtsh.org.uk . Applications can be made online at www.llse.org.uk/npq.

Fully funded NPQs are available to all teachers and leaders who are employed in state-funded schools and state-funded organisations that offer 16-19 places in England.

Due to the changes in funding and the increased demand for NPQ courses, we are looking to expand our team of facilitators. If you are a senior leader or headteacher who is interested in being part of the NPQ delivery team, and guiding others in their leadership journey please contact faye.mcgill@tgtsh.org.uk by Friday 10 December 2021.

For staff supporting children, young people and vulnerable adults in low-risk
Education and Social Care settings where physical interventions are not normally required.

Starting with the belief that all behaviour is communication we deliver a toolkit approach that is 95% understanding behaviours and encouraging de-escalation. The 5% assesses the need for physical intervention that may include personal safety and simple, basic positive handling strategies – mainly guiding and escorting safely. Also covered is legal guidance and best practice when reporting and reviewing incidents.

Keeping those who have become distressed safe, as well as those around them and maintaining positive relationships.
