Welcome
from Esther Cook, Director
Dear Colleagues,

Incredibly it is already May and the delivery of the academic year 2021/2022 is now complemented by emerging plans for 2022/2023. Firstly we would like to wish students across our region well as they approach external examinations, and to congratulate and thank staff for their relentless support, encouragement and guidance.

As we consider the final months of this academic year, we are delighted to be continuing to offer a wealth of opportunities for professional and leadership development. We will focus, as always, on ensuring that our whole offer provides the world class delivery worthy of our profession, and will be continuing to seek essential feedback, firstly to ensure the ongoing quality of our offer, and secondly to build the picture of our offer for the next academic year.

As a large Teaching School Hub, our plans for the next stages are focused on planning for growth. Our over 400 ECTs will move successfully into their second year, as new colleagues also join our profession and begin their first year of induction. Our 650 NPQ delegates will be finishing programmes and moving to assessment as new colleagues sign up for ongoing opportunities. These will include the NPQs in ‘Early Years Leadership’ and ‘Leading Literacy.’

This enhanced delivery provides increased opportunities for colleagues across our region to train as facilitators, developing their own toolkit whilst providing training and development for others. These opportunities are fully funded, generating reimbursement for schools for facilitators’ time. If this is of interest to yourself or wider colleagues, we would be delighted to hear from you via our ‘Facilitator expression of interest’ form.

We look forward to continuing to work with you, and would welcome an invitation to discuss any elements of our offer with you via enquiries@tgtsh.org.uk.

Very best wishes, Esther Cook - Hub Director, Thames Gateway TSH
Appropriate Body
Thank you to schools for successfully completing Progress Review 2. These are currently being moderated by our team.

"As an induction assessor I have the privilege of reading the reviews of many Early Career Teachers. I have been impressed by the detailed responses and reading them you get the sense that tutors and mentors know their ECTs really well. ECTs are aware of their next steps and are relating them to the Teacher Standards. Some of the responses are so detailed I feel that I know the ECT as well. It has made assessing the reviews a pleasure rather than a chore." ECT Induction Moderator

We would like to invite Induction Tutors to training to prepare them for writing Formal Assessment 1 which opens for completion on ECT Manager on 22nd June 2022.

If you would like to access this training to support you in writing formal assessments, please join us on Tuesday 14th June @ 3.45pm, you can sign up via this booking form. You can also use this link to request a recording of the training.
Early Career Framework
Registration for ECTs joining your schools in September 2022 will open shortly. The DfE will be sharing a link with you all to an updated ‘Manage Training for Early Career Teacher' portal. We are offering a range of training dates to talk you through these changes to ensure the process is as efficient as possible for you as schools. We would highly recommend you wait to register any new ECTs until after you have attended one of these training events. The DfE are still making changes to the system beyond the launch date of the 10th May 2022, we would like to support you by ensuring these changes are implemented by the DfE before you begin using the system.

National Professional Qualifications
It is amazing to think that our November NPQ delegates are now at least half way through their qualification, and it has been our pleasure to work with LLSE and our Cluster partners to support teachers and leaders from across Kent and Medway in their leadership journey.

The first module of the February NPQ cohorts are coming to a close, and have also been extremely successful, a delegate on the NPQH course reported that “ having the space to explore research, and talk through ideas and strategies is invaluable. I left the first face to face session motivated to take my learning back to colleagues in my Academy.”

The DFE have now released the dates for the assessment windows for all NPQs started this academic year, you can view them here.

Looking forward to 2022/23, we are excited to be introducing the new NPQs, they are Leading Literacy and Early Years Leadership. The DFE application window officially open for all NPQ courses on Wednesday 1st June 2022, you can register your interest in the NPQs before that date via the LLSE website. We are still waiting confirmation from the DFE regarding funding for 2022/23 cohorts, we will update you in due course via our mailing list and our website.

If you have any questions regarding existing NPQs or the new courses available from October 2022, please contact Faye McGill faye.mcgill@tgtsh.org.uk
