How to focus a phone

Green is the Key When you use the slider you will notice areas that turn green. This is indicating what areas are actually in focus. Great if your vision is a little questionable or if it is really bright and you can't quite see what is happening.

This one may seem obvious but it isn't always.  Your job as a photographer is to drive the eye of the viewer and the viewers eye naturally gravitates to what is in focus.  So make sure the focus is where you really want it to be.  There are two ways on phones to photograph.  The easy way and the more precise way.  Either are fine but have different times that you will use them.

Precise Pro Focus This setting is excellent if your vision isn't perfect or if you want to focus on a very specific part of an image. You can use the pro focus slider function if your phone has this option. If it doesn't then you might be able to get that feature using Adobe Lightroom camera like I explain in the Apple settings a few pages along.

Manual Focus This is like using the manual focus ring on a DSLR lens. It gives you complete control over where the focus is on your image. If you leave all of the other settings to "A" for automatic then they will work similar to the basic camera that automatically comes up on your phone but you will have more focus control. Manual settings will be explored in more detail in other books.

The Basic Way -Touch the screen on you device on the place in the photograph where you want to the focus to be the sharpest. -Hold it until that area sharpens. - If you hold it down you can even lock the focus in an area. -Now take the shot.

Touch Screen- When you open the camera have a look at what is in front of you. What do you want people to look at? Touch that and it will come into focus. Hold it down and it will lock focus.

Pro Focus using Adobe Lightroom Download Adobe lightroom to your device. They will make it look like you need to pay but you don't need to upgrade. Punch the blue camera button on the bottom right of the screen to open the settings. Select Professional.

Activate the focus slider which lives next to the WB button.  As you have a play with the slider you will see part of the picture turning green.  These are the areas that are in focus which gives you a much greater level of control over your focus areas and really helps if your vision isn't perfect.
