Each measure shows ideas for the right hand or the left hand. The ideas do not have to be played together. Mix &apos;em up!

More than One Player The steps listed above would be helpful to cover prior to using Chord Stacks in a group setting. Below are improvisation ideas for group lessons. 1) Players notate the chord roots of Pachelbel’s Canon on the chord stack chart or three-shade paint strips. Use one strip per chord. 2) Players play the single bass note pattern as a group while teacher or a student plays a drum pattern or rhythm style generated from a keyboard or from apps like SuperMetronome Groove Box or Tin Pan Rhythm. 3) Players write in chord tones above each root. 4) Players play the chords in RH as a group while teacher plays bass line and vice versa. 5) Divide players in half, one group plays the bass line, one plays the chords. 6) Encourage players to brainstorm various ways to play the bass line and the chords: inversions, broken, blocked, etc. 7) Let everyone play their ideas together with a drum beat. 8) Ask all players to circle a chord tone for each chord and follow directions on the page before. 9) Ask one player to play his/her circled-note melody, while the rest of the players play chords and or single bass note. 10) Challenge the player who is playing the melody to add one note between each chord tone as described above. 11) Let everyone in the group play each part by rotating seats: bass line, chords, melody and drum pattern. 12) if you have access to a keyboard or app with various rhythm styles, choose a variety of styles as you rotate. For example: Hoedown, Ballad, Hard Rock, Latin Party, etc. Pachelbel Hack Begin the RH on F# and play a descending line and you&apos;ll discover how Pachelbel created his famous tune.

Read each page and 1) Play all three notes as blocked chords 2) Identify the chord.

Pulse quarter note triads in right hand and play octaves in left hand while reading the correct chord symbol. Play four beats per page. Turn page ASAP to prepare for next chord while keeping a steady beat on the present chord. When chords are mastered in root position, then play progressions again and... 1) Use inversions to slide more easily between chords 2) Modify chords with Add2 Sus4 7ths 3) Rock chords in RH 4) Play chords up an octave. The idea to improvise using this timeless chord progression brought to us by Pachelbel centuries years ago, is not new. However, I give full credit to Bradley Sowash for the innovative way in which he teachers melodic construction using this chord progression. He coined the term “chord stacks&quot; and it has stuck with me for good! Possible ways to jam using this chord progression in a chord stack frame of mind. Tips on displaying the color-coded chord stack charts provided on the following pages: 1) Import the PDF into Notability and reflect the color coded chart on an HDTV or a screen with a projector. 2) Complete the colorful chord chart placed in clear pockets so they can be reused. 3) Print black and white copies of the chord chart. 4) Use paint strips and assign students to complete chord tones. 5) Print large letters and tape to tissue boxes. Single Player The list below could be assigned over several weeks of lessons. 1) Reading across the bottom line of the chord stack, learn and memorize the single note bass line in LH with the solid fingering. 2) Above the LH bass line, add RH chords playing in root position only. 3) Above the LH bass line, add RH chords playing in 1st inversion only. 4) Above the LH bass line, add RH chords playing in 2nd inversion only. 5) Above the LH bass line, add RH chords playing a mix of root, 1st and 2nd inversion. As this becomes more comfortable, feel free to add more interest in the LH bass line. Consider using a power chord, or any style from Bradley Sowash&apos;s Style Glossary. Constructing a Melody with Chord Stacks 1) Circle one chord tone in each stack. 2) Play LH progression bass line and RH plays the tone that was circled for each chord. 3) Play LH progression bass line and RH plays the tone that was circled for each chord AND any preferred notes between the tones. Make sure to land on the target note on time with each chord change. 4) Play the same as above but play two chord tones for every chord change. 5) Play the same as above but add any preferred notes between chord tones and make sure to land on the target tone on time with each chord change,
