Early Life
Born on May 7, 1861, Calcutta, British India, to Debendranath Tagore and Sarada Devi. He was the youngest of 13 children in the family.He lost his mother at a young age.Born to a family of ardent art lovers ,he was introduced to theatre, music , and literature at an early age.
Tagore moved to England, to study law in 1878, but returned to Bengal in 1880 without completing the degree
His sister-in-law, Kadambari, who was his close friend and confidante, committed suicide in 1884. Tagore was devastated by this, he lost interest in classes at school and spent his time wandering.
During 1891-1895 Tagore authored a massive three volume collection of short stories : ‘Galpaguchchha.’

Tagore moved to Shantiniketan in 1901 and published many works and he had gained immense popularity among Bengali readers
He became popular among English-reading people after the publication of ‘Gitanjali: Song Offerings.’
He brought the ‘Nobel Prize in Literature.’ to India for‘ Gitanjali in 1913
