PIG DIGESTION
(The Story of a Grape)
Hey Kiddies! We are about to go through a pig's digestive system, and what better way than to hop on one of their favorite foods, grapes! We will go through all of the different parts of the pig’s monogastric digestive system. Turn the page to find the first stage, the mouth.
MOUTH
Ellipse;
Ooh, yay! It's my turn to be eaten! I can feel the teeth breaking me apart as well as saliva helping me move. The piggy's tongue is pushing me back towards the esophagus.
Esophagus
Ellipse;
Woo! This is like a water slide. I'm headed to the stomach now. The muscles in the esophagus contracting cause me to be squeezed down the throat.
Ellipse;
Now that I'm mush(bolus), I reach the stomach and fall apart even further because of the acids in the stomach, through chemical digestion. I'm starting to go to the intestines, see you there!
Ellipse;
Hi again! We're now in the small intestines(includes the Duodenum, Jejunum, and Illeum), parts of me are being absorbed into the pig's body right now. Things like fats, sugars, and proteins are used by animals. The large intestine is next!
