The legend of Lough Corrib
A

......... long time ago, in an old Irish kingdom, there was an old and solitary king who was living with his only daughter in a big castle surrounded by miles of fields and a large forest where many magical creatures were living. This king was called “the solitary king” as he was very unsociable and was not going out of his castle. But nobody knew that Princess Ciara, his daughter, had a rare illness so she could not go out because the world was too dangerous for her. However, Ciara was a cheerful, fun and clever little girl who dreamt of exploring the outside world. She spent her days reading stories about fantastic creatures such as mermaids, dragons, hydres and her favourites : sea unicorns.

The solitary king was a calm and good father who loved his daughter and he saw that she was not doing well. So, one day, he decided to ask a fairy, the Corrib fairy, to create, for Princess Ciara, a place where she could play and explore the outside world whitout it being dangerous for her health.
The Corrib fairy knew exactly how to make the little girl wishes come true. She chose a small river in the centre of the forest and transformed it into a beautiful and large lake. She even added Ciara's favourite creatures. She also asked a sea dragon to protect the princess when she would play in this lake.

...hree months later, the place was finished. Ciara was so happy when she discovered this surprise. Everything was exactly like in her dreams.

This day, she spent hours swimming with the aquatic creatures, exploring the place and enjoying fresh air. But it was time for her to go back home and to her normal life.
Ciara was saying goodbye to all of her magical friends and was about to cry. Suddenly, she figured out that something had changed. She was not sick anymore ! The magical lake had saved her and cured her from her rare illness.

In the end, the king and the princess thanked the Corrib fairy and they all lived happily ever after.

Today, the lake remains and it is now called “the Lough Corrib” because of the fairy who, one day, saved the life of a sick little princess.
