We now know about the importance of labels, captions, a contents page and subheadings. We used our non-fiction knowledge and made our very own recycling book. With our friends, we made sure we used all of the features found in a non-fiction text.

We loved reading lots of non-fiction texts. We enjoyed learning new information as this helped us with our questioning and critical thinking.

We explored the text 'We're Going On A Bear Hunt'. We loved this as the text allowed us to think and write creatively.

A neighbour of our school had written to us. He wanted our class to investigate a mysterious animal found on our school field. We went and asked teachers if they knew anything. They said they heard scratching sounds and saw something brown and furry. When we went to investigate we discovered it was our class bear; Bramble! When we found Bramble he was reading the book 'We're Going On A Bear Hunt!'. We had so much fun.

We used our creative thinking skills and changed parts of the story using our Mighty Writer Board e.g. instead of travelling through long, wavy grass we travelled through a deep, sticky swamp.
Rounded Rectangle
We loved recreating our own animal hunt story. Some children went on a penguin hunt and travelling through white, cold ice and some children went on a lion hunt and travelled through a hot, sandy desert.

I liked it when we all had a part in the story. My favourite part of the story is when the children ran up the stairs and forgot to shut the front door.
Speech Bubble
We created a story tray to help us visualise the story 'We're Going On A Bear Hunt'. We retold the story using the characters, events and settings. We love creating story trays as it helps us with our vocabulary and talk for writing.
Autumn 2
Handa's Surprise...
Role play helped us to remember the story. We loved being in role of the characters and our friends hot seating and asking us questions.
We loved reading and exploring the book; Handa's Surprise. It helped us with our vocabulary of what we can see. We compared the similarities and differences to where Handa lives and where we live.

Little Red Riding Hood...
I worked with Aurelia to find where the full stops and the capital letters should go. I found this a little tricky, but Miss Leyland taught me to read back the writing and take a breath where the full stop should go. Aurelia remembered to always put a capital letter after the full stop!
Speech Bubble
At times, we find using full stops a little tricky, so Miss Leyland set us a challenge, where we had to try and spot where the full stops should go.
Speech Bubble
We listened to the story 'Little Red Riding Hood' and Mrs Bell set us the challenge to change the characters and the setting. For example, from Little Red Riding Hood to Little Blue Riding Hood. Or, instead of a forest, it could be a park. Have a look in our English books at our amazing stories!

Fantasy...
We read the book 'The Rainbow Fish' as a class and explored the features of a fantasy setting. We used the Mighty Writer board to help us retell the story. We made sure we used openers, joining words, superlatives and punctuation. This helped us to retell the story in our English books.
