Welcome to Whitemoor Academy Weekly Newsletter: 24th November 2023
Head of School Welcome
We have had a wonderful time appreciating ‘the arts’ at Whitemoor this week. On Monday morning, I had the pleasure of joining Class 3 and 4 at the Hall for Cornwall for a fantastic Proms performance by the AsOne music hub. The children were so engaged with the performance and came back to school feeling excited and inspired.
On Thursday this week, several children from Years 3, 4 and 5 performed at the St Austell festival of Music & Speech. I would like to say a huge well done to all of the children for their courage and resilience in getting up on the stage. We are so proud of all of them. A special shout out to Mary-Ella and Evelyn who were classed 1st and 3rd for Year 4.
I would also like to wish the KS1 speakers the best of luck for tomorrow and the choir good luck for next week. Thank you to all of the parents who have helped to rehearse at home, it really means a lot.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Behaviour at Whitemoor
At Whitemoor, we believe that behaviour is something that needs to be taught in order for it to be part of our whole school culture. We do this in several different ways. Firstly our school rules - Be Ready, Be Safe and Be Respectful are a daily feature in class and outside in the playground. We talk about these rules in assembly times and how they can support children in later life. Why not ask your children at home and see if they can remember them? Building relationships is a key part of our school curriculum. We believe that strong relationships between the staff, children and their parents is important. We always ensure that staff speak to the children with respect and ask that they do the same in return. We hold restorative conversations when children struggle to make the right choices to get to the bottom of the problem. Building relationships between pupils is also important to us. This year, we have introduced a buddy system to support our youngest children, we have also started to mix some of the older children and younger children together at play time to encourage positive role modelling and play. Our KS2 play leaders are always so excited to organise games for the younger children. In addition to the above, we use the SCARF scheme for PSHE. In SCARF, children learn about friendships, bullying, online safety and fundamental British Values. For more information on SCARF or to read our full behaviour policy, please see our school website.
