You're made of...
CELLS!!
What are Cells?
Cells are these tiny little things that make you into you! Without them, you wouldn't be here!
So if YOU are made up of cells...
What are CELLS made up of?
Cells....
... Are made of organelles!
Organelles are just like the organs you have, they keep the cell living and control its functions. Think of your brain, your heart, your skin, and your lungs! They're organs, and cells have little organelles that act like little organs!
Can you see all the organelles in the picture to the left? They act just like your heart, lungs, and veins!
The Nucleus
The nucleus is like the brain of the cell, it manages the cell and contains all the DNA that allows the other organelles to do their jobs.
Think of your brain, without it, you wouldn't be able to do anything you can do, like breathing or moving! That's what the nucleus does for the cell, it's just the cell's brain!
Think of the nucleus as an apple! It has a coating outside to protect its inside, and deep in the center is a core called the nucleolus.
Cell Membrane
The cell membrane is like your skin. It keeps things that shouldn't be inside on the outside and lets things that need to go outside go out. Like sweating, your skin lets the sweat out, but doesn't let anything else out!
If you look at the picture above, you can see how the membrane only lets certain things out, and keeps the invasive things outside where they belong!
