Sally Ride was born May 26, 1951. She was born in Encino, Los Angeles, CA. Her and her siblings were encouraged to follow their interests. As a child she was an avid tennis player and had dreams of becoming a professional player. At age 10 she won a scholarship to Westlake school for girls In Los Angeles. She was ranked in the top 20 nationally in the juniors tennis teams. (Credits to National women's History Museum)

One problem that Sally Ride had to face was policies that declined women from working important jobs. People thought that women can't handle the job of a man. She out of the 8,000 applicants, she and five other women and 29 men were picked. She was able to change the face of the American Space Program.
