Tena koutou katoa. Welcome to the Parkside Year Book for 2021.

Through these pages, we celebrate amazing achievements and special moments that make up life at Parkside School.

Covid may have kept us at home at times, leading to postponement of some traditional events. However, we still have so much to celebrate. The following pages reflect the hard work, enthusiasm and motivation of students who embrace their learning every day. A joy to see and a reflection of mahi tahi across the school community.

Our Parkside motto, vision and values are demonstrated throughout every page. Most importantly our unique Parkside School character shines out from students and staff alike.

In 2021 when the world has faced Covid, Parkside School has faced it together, worked through it together and grown stronger together.

Thank you to all students, staff, families and whānau for your dedication to Parkside School and our core values throughout 2021.

Here's to a fabulous 2022. Kia manahau!

The Koru symbolises the way life both changes and stays the same, it indicates new life, growth, strength and peace. Combined with the sunrise it symbolises that although life changes students and school can peacefully grow towards a bright new future together.
The three Korus symbolise the students, whānau and community the school serves.
The hands symbolise the staff humbly holding and nurturing students, whānau and community through their mana and aroha. The roots symbolise the bonds through which we can all flourish beyond expectations.

Music
Comic Panel 1
The 2021 Parkside School Music programme has been one of 2 halves with some exciting learning happening both on-site and on-line.

Whilst our Junior students have enjoyed learning about the elements of music (pitch, dynamics, tempo) through sensory songs, movement, and percussion instruments, students at Intermediate have engaged in learning about the timbre of instruments. Both students and staff enjoyed learning the early skills and techniques of playing the Ukulele.

Senior students at Te Waka Tapawha persevered and mastered a complex ensemble piece on tuned percussion instruments i.e. xylophone, chime bars, and bass bars. The resulting performance was amazing. Our Parkside Band practiced with commitment and dedication culminating in a performance at the Family Fun Day that was received with enthusiasm and applause.

Special Olympics
Comic Panel 1
The Te Waka Tapawha students enjoyed playing tennis in term 1 and the progress most students have made is remarkable.
The Hill, View Road and Valley hub classes also took part in an indoor tennis programme with lots of laughter and fun learning new skills. We are aiming to extend the tennis programme throughout the junior school in 2022.
To all the wonderful and talented athletes, I am sure we are going to have an awesome 2022 proving once again that Parkside is a force to be reckoned with.
