Farming
We are nicknamed the Breadbasket because our soil is good for growing lots of bread ingredients such as wheat and corn. Also, we have long growing seasons so you can farm all you want.

There are forests full of trees to cut and use. Wood is used in a lot of different ways. It is used in things such as ship building and paper.
Sailing
Here we have deep harbors so you wouldn't bump into rocks when you dock. Unlike the New England region where they're getting leaks from their rocky coastline.

Why Were We Founded?
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
We were founded for fur trading posts, room for more settlers, and for a safe place for Quakers to stay
* The Quakers welcomed people of all kinds of religions. They even welcomed Native Americans! Therefore the Native Americans lived in peace with the colonists.
This is William Penn. He was a Quaker, and he founded Pennsylvania. Click on him to see a Flocabulary on the 13 colonies.
Geography, Climate, Land, and More
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The climate here is better than the other regions. Although the winters are cold and snowy here, they're better than the harsh winters in the New England colonies where they were struggling to survive. It's also better than the Southern colonies where its's so hot. The heat there attracts mosquitoes that carry disease. I guess you could say the climate here is right in the middle.
The Middle colonies have lots of natural resources. Underground there are minerals such as iron. Above ground there is soil great for farming. There are deep harbors and lots of rivers.

Southern
New England
The Southern colonies had very rich soil so their economy was mostly based around farming.
The New England region didn't have very good soil so they found different ways to make money such as fishing and ship building.
The Southern colonies were founded because they were against the English Dept Law, for economic opportunities, and religious freedom for Catholics.
The New England colonies had vast forests and clean water. They also had harsh winters, short growing seasons, and rocky coastlines.
