Although you may hear all negatives about social media on the news, internet, and from your parents there are actually positives about social media.



Some of the negatives about social media are, likes on social media can either have a really positive effect or a really negative effect. For example, people that get a lot of negative comments and very minimal likes may become depressed and start to have suicidal thoughts. 



Some of the positives about social media are, on social media you can connect with your friends and family and stay close with them. You can find new friends, and different types of “communities”

to hang out with. On social media you can find an outlet for your creativity and self expression. This means that if you’re really good at something you can post different things that you’ve worked on, on social media and you can find others with this same talent or you may get opportunities to work on something bigger. But one of the biggest positives of social media is that you can discover and try new things.

Social Media can make you feel seperated from the world. Social Media makes you feel separated by changing who you are as a person. Your whole mood can change just because of one thing you see on social media. Social media can make you feel hopeless and that there is no one out there that can help you. But that’s not true, on social media you can talk to people that can help you, and that’s going through the same thing as you. Social media can also make you more anxious or stressed. Social media can also make you super happy because you get what you want. For example you can get a lot of likes on your posts, or get a lot of positive comments. Social media is a blessing or a curse to some people.

The History Of Social Media

The launch of the first social platform was May 24 1844 with a series of electronic dots and dashes from a telegraph machine. This message was sent from Baltimore to Washington D.C This message was sent by Samuel Morse.

It took over 100 years to advance past this, In 1969 when a new platform was made by the United States Department of Defense that allowed 4 scientific universities to share software, hardware, and other data.
In 1987 the national science foundation launched a more robust nationwide digital network known as the NSFNET

In 1997 The short lived six degrees profile uploading service was created which was followed by the friendster in 2001. These platforms attracted millions of users and enabled email address resignation and basic online networking. Weblogs began to take popularity with the launch of livejournal. This coincided with the launch of the blogger publishing platform tech company pyra labs which eventually was purchased by google in 2003. In 2003 myspace launched. By 2006 it was the most visited website
In the world. In 2008 it was eclipsed by facebook which today has nearly 2.5 billion monthly users. In 2011, myspace was purchased by Justin Timberlake for $35 million, but it has become a social media afterthought.
Google attempted its own social media landscape, Google+ launched in 2012. It came to a rough end in 2018 when nearly 500,000 google+ users were compromised by a data security breach. Now in 2022 there have been 4.62 billion people active on social media in the last 12 months. The author's purpose in this article was to inform readers on the history and the importance of different social media platforms. With all of these social media apps and websites come a lot of good jobs.
