Dear Parents/Carers,
And just like that, it's suddenly the Summer Term!
We welcome you back and look forward to what is always a very busy time at St Minver School.
All children have brought home a curriculum leaflet, outlining planned learning for the half term ahead and I hope these will help inform how you can support from home. We would especially welcome your skills and expertise and would love to have parents visiting school to share their first hand knowledge with the children.
This week sees the final week of school swimming at Wadebridge Leisure Centre. With rising costs, especially of coach travel, some schools have had to prioritise certain year groups and drop swimming for others. With the continued support of our PTA, through your fantastic fundraising and a significant subsidy directly back to parents, we have maintained our commitment to swimming for all year groups this year and plan to do so next year also. Thank you PTA!
Staying with the PTA, we now have full-sized basketball hoops in the top playground, again funded by PTA's fundraising, and being used every day by a whole mixture of Key Stage Two children. We are so privileged to have such a glorious environment to play in and with better weather the children are really very busy! We also await final delivery of refreshed play shed equipment, bought with PTA funds, so that we can give the children choice and variety in encouraging them to be active outdoors.
'DID YOU KNOW?' that the PTA puts £3500 towards swimming costs every year, another £1000 to subsidise school trips and on average an additional £2000 to further enhance our school offer throughout EVERY year. We hope sponsorships raised at the forthcoming Colour Run on Friday 17th May will kickstart next year's fundraising with a bang and feel sure we can rely on you for your support. Get involved how and when you can!
I popped in during the Easter break when Go Active were here delivering a holiday club for children from both St Minver and other schools. Despite the unpredictable weather, the children were immersed in a range of good quality activities and having loads of fun. Feedback has been good. We have secured Go Active for a date in the May half term holiday too - see dates page - and I hope this will become a feature of subsequent holidays too.
Nursery (Little Cowries) continues to flourish and we have new children starting on a regular basis - in fact, we now have a grand total of 26 nursery-aged pupils 'on the books'. We have our list of Reception class starters for September 2024, the vast majority of who we already know well from Nursery and we are excited to see the flying start we believe they will make, having already settled so well into Team St Minver! We still have some spaces for the Reception class and welcome any further enquiries.
I hope you enjoy April's newsletter. Remember to check the website every week, where you will find updated Stars of the Week and dates for your diary under the newsletter tab.
