How I Used The Launch Cycle

Next, I started to think about how I’m going to solve the problem. I asked questions like, is the gloves comfortable? How slippery is the glove? Are there rules about what type of glove you have to wear?

When I started to think more about my problem, I thought of something. Sewing the sandpaper onto the glove wouldn’t actually work. The sandpaper will fall apart. It will also hurt people and damage the ball. So when I got home to find something else, I found out that ping-pong rubber(the rubber on the racket) is actually really grippy and frictional. It wasn’t dangerous, and I can glue it onto the glove.

Well, I’ve been playing soccer for a long time. Maybe around 5 years. When I did some deeper thinking and started to look around, I figured out something. I came up with an idea. Sometimes when I play soccer, I can hear the sound of the ball slipping out of the goalie’s hand. So, my idea was to create something that can stop the ball from slipping out of the goalie’s hands. 

Phase 3: Understand the Question or Process

Now it’s time to understand my question. I started to research what materials were frictional even when it’s wet. Some things such as sandpaper came up. I thought sandpaper was a really good Idea. I decided to sew the sandpaper onto the goalie glove. I did some deeper research about the layers of the gloves and what existed. I also asked some people if the glove was comfortable. Many people said it wasn’t. The thing is, the glove doesn’t have much layers. Even the professional ones. So I decided to make an extra thin layer on the inside that can withdraw a little bit of impact so the goalie gets more control.

Now, it was time to create my prototype. I went through three prototypes. My first prototype was a sketch of what I was going to do. It was before I changed my mind about sandpaper. My second prototype was my glove that I made. That was after I changed my mind. I put gorilla glue on the rubber and glued the rubber on. If you look closely, I actually flip the rubber around so it was inside out. My third and final prototype was a video that I filmed with my friend to test out the glove. I felt like it went extremely well and he liked it.

Now, I had to fix some things. Since I was adding a thing layer on the inside, I couldn’t find a way to actually put the layer in. So what I’ve decided to do instead is to use double sided tape and tape it on the inside. It works just as good. I’ve already talked about this but the sandpaper is something else I had to change. It was too dangerous and it was too breakable. So I decided to use ping pong rubber instead. 

Ok, the exhibition is here. Now, I have to show the community my project. So what is my project? My goal was to make a more frictional goalie glove so you can catch the ball easier when it’s wet. I decided to use ping pong rubber because the water will leak through the cracks so you would have a higher chance of catching the ball. It may not always work but it does increase the chance. You know what can increase the chance even more? Making an extra layer and making the glove more comfortable. I decided to add a layer of cotton to withdraw some impact from the ball. It make it easier to catch and it gets you more control. My friend and I actually made a video and we tested the glove out. It was pretty good. I do recommend using the normal glove on normal days because it actually covers more surface area that the rubber. There are cracks between each dot on the rubber so it covers less area.
