Step 6 continued. 	Now to complete the grid measure one inch marks on both ends of the paper, starting from the top of the paper and measuring down. Remember you have to have two points to create a straight line. I find this easier because the marks are not as close together and it usually makes completing the grid easier. Also the less you draw in the drawing area the better.

Step 6 continued. 	Connect the dots and finish your grid. (Remember you don’t want to draw on your image.)

Step 4. Now we need to cut the picture in half. Because people are not flat we do not want to cut the image straight it will give the illusion that the image is flat and will defeat the purpose of trying to recreate the image.  You want to use a slightly curving cut, like the image below.

Step 3. The image should be blown up to fill an entire 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. Below is what a full page image should be similar too.

Step 5. Mounting the image to your drawing paper. 	Things you will need. 		1. Drawing Paper cut to 9 x 12 		2. 4H Drawing Pencil 		3. Glue Stick 	Start by centering the entire image to the center of the Drawing paper. (If you are Left handed you will glue down the right side. If you are Right handed you will glue down the left side. This assures you will not be reaching over your glued down section and over time destroying the print.)

Step 5 continued. 	Now its time to clue down your image. This is a very important step. It is very important that you don’t get glue on the drawing surface. Be very careful. 	You need to apply glue to the very edge of the image all the way around. Notice how i used the center of the pictures mounting area to apply glue to both middle of the image surface and the edge of the image all the way around..

Make sure you apply pressure to the edges for at least a minute.  Glue sticks take about that long to get a good adhesion.   Great job, this part is not easy..

Step 7 continued. 	See how I have a mark going all the way around the image location so I have two points to create a straight line. Connect the dots and your all done. Congratulations!

Step 6. Applying the Grid. 	Things you will need. 		1. Ruler 		2. 4H Pencil 	Starting from the right side of the paper (in my case since I am right handed, but if you are left handed you will start from the left side of the paper). On the blank side you will need to make a mark every inch until you get close to the picture. You will need to do this on the top and bottom of the paper like the picture below. 	Notice how on the top the final mark goes slightly into the picture but on the bottom there is a bout a half inch. This varies depending on how your picture is cut.

Step 1. Figuring out who you want to draw. (Suggestion; I highly recommend choosing someone famous, usually it is easier to find a high quality picture that hasn’t simply been taken from a smartphone. Most phone pictures are not high enough resolution for expanding an image as large as will be needed for this project.).

Step 1.5. While looking for an image if you are using google make sure that you are looking for images with a pixel rating of at least 1000 x 1000, and that you have a front view of your person. Images of your person looking off to the side or not straight on are much more complicated but discuss with your teacher if you are really interested.

Step 2.  Once you have found your image you will need to transfer the image to Microsoft Word, Google docs will not expand the image or let you use the paper as well as Word.  The image should fill the page with only the face.

Step 7.	 	Things you will need. 		1. Ruler 		2. Ball Point Pen 	What we need to do know is create the exact same grid on the image that we are going to be drawing. First place the image back over the grid you just drew. You should be able to see the grid around the image. It is very important that the grid on the drawing paper and on your image are the exact same so we don’t want to actually measure we want to trace. You’ll notice in the picture that I moved the image away just a little bit and it exposed the grid under, but remember you want to wait to do this last. Keep the image tight and mark all the points all the way around, then lastly pull the picture away and mark the curved cut edge last.

Step 5 continued. 	Remove whichever side fits best for you. I am removing the left side since I am right handed.

Step 6 continued. 	Draw a line using your ruler and 4H Pencil. Remember to use very little pressure we don’t want these grid lines to show up later. Connect the lines. Make all lines go to the very top and bottom of the page, but don’t draw on the printed image if you can help it.

Step 5 Continued. 	Now with the 4H pencil mark all four corners of the half image left on the page. (I used a sharpie only so you could see better. Please don’t use sharpie)
