If you go in the habitat, this is what you should do:

1. Get permission if you just crawled in while no one was looking. This book needs humor, and this is how you do it. But seriously, do get permission.

Don't hurt me! I'm innocent! honest! I was NOT committed in any crime scenes!

2. Approach the animal quietly. Sea Otters may get scared if you run up to them quickly, like any animal obviously, (unless they're demons and try to defend themselves:) so just be careful.

If you go in the Habitat, This is what you should NOT do: 1. (see number 2 in what you should do to find out what not to do to this animal, hint: 2nd paragraph)

2. Do not feed it. Sea Otters will not accept hand fed food. This is because the sea otter wants to eat on it's own. They don't need help eating food, so why accept it? (this doesn't mean you should throw food at them, just don't feed them at all)

Common myth: Sea Otters eat kelp. No, this isn't true. Sea Otters carnivores and only eat other creatures. They don't eat plants like kelp.

In the wild, Sea Otters usually live in very large groups called rafts. They live in cold ocean waters in kelp forests. When at night, Sea Otters will grab on to a long secure piece of kelp and hold on to it while they sleep so they don't drift away from each other.

The habitat in the rescue center needs to have the following things in it: 1. lot's of clean water 2. kelp or something very similar 3. toys

Kelp forests have plenty of food for Sea Otters! No wonder they live near the kelp.

A Sea Otter spends almost it's whole life in water and are clumsy on land. A River Otter on the other hand, can walk on land and spends 2/3 of life on land and 1/3 in water

Sea Otters are a short or long - tailed and round - headed creature with a fat round body. The face is usually a tanish color and the rest of the body is darker than the head. They also have a large nose but small ears and eyes.

Color: light brown, reddish brown, yellowish gray or almost black. Size: 2 - 3 feet Length: 30 - 65 in. Weight: 50 - 100 lb.
