Writing Exercise
- Think of your favorite place
- What does it look like, sound like, smell like?
- How do you feel when you are there?
- How do the sounds and smells change from day to night?
Example:
At Mount Rainer the air is thick and muggy, the sound of a mighty river tumbling over boulders in the distance. If you listen closely, you can hear the sound of mosquitos buzzing softly. In late summer the air smells sweet, almost sickly, because of all the blooming wildflowers. At night, the stars are bright and dense, painting the sky in a golden glow. By Mrs. Herkert
Many birds visit my backyard everyday. Some of the calls are loud, and some are just short chirps. When the flowers are in bloom, the smell is amazing. On some days, the air doesn't feel very clear. But, in the night time, the air is always refreshing. I go out in my backyard to relax and think about stuff. I always fell calm when I'm in my backyard. Sometimes, I feel happy or excited when I find out that one of the birds are deciding to make a nest in one of the bushes. My backyard always make me cheerful again.

My favorite place to be is at William's house because I get to play games with him and his house smells like food which I like. At night, it smells like pizza because William's mom is cooking pizza. During the day, it still smells like pizza. When I was at William's house, I felt happy and his house sounds like William's and my voice.

My favorite place to be is in Italy because it is very fun and it is never cold.

I hear the waves crashing against the shore in Irrigon. The sounds of birds chirping and dogs barking. I love swimming there, it makes me feel like i'm free. I love the first time we go on the tube to the last time. Everytime I jump into the water I feel the cold water rushing thourgh my body. Right when me and my family get out of the car straight away I smell onions, thats because there are so many onion fields in Irrigon. Everytime we go I feel so happy and cheerful like I just won a gold medal! During the day the air feels calm and soothing, during the night it feels crisp and thin. Every time we leave I feel sad because we are going but I also feel so exited to come back next summer!

My favorite place is the beach. It looks mostly empty with rocks sea gulls and lots of sand. It sounds as quiet as a mouse and has the whistle of the breeze and it smells like dirty water and fish. When I'm there I feel amazing like I can be myself. At night the smell changes to a sort of campfire smell like burning but theirs never a fire.
My favorite place is Maui Hawaii.
I like it because it's tropical and it's sunny most of the time.
It smells like fresh air and sea water.
At night the colors fade from blue to
Orange and yellow to
To slowly getting darker and now it smells just like
Paradise. Sophie W
My favorite place to be is home. It has brown drawers and cabinets in the kitchen with white walls and carpet floors. It's loud because we have five people and two cats. It smells like five gallons of perfume because of my grandma.
It feels comfy and livable. The sound changes at night by then it's quiet and all I can see is the light from the TV in the other room. It smells like air.

At my cabin it's very nice it always sounds of birds chirping, trees are dripping water and the sun is out. The place is misty and humid. It feels warm with a nice slow breeze. At night the crickets are chirping the temperature drops and the breeze picks up. - Liam

At Disneyland, you can feel the sweat and the thick air. If you listen closely you can hear the birds singing of joy. People asking if they can paint you and your family at a low price. Looking at the long rides, that's where you want to go. Waiting in a long line dancing while waiting. In the late day, lights turn on and fireworks begin. Can't wait for tomorrow's day.
