All About the Grasslands

Welcome to the Grasslands region! This report will talk about where the region is located, what the climate is, resources and industries, vegetation, wildlife, occupation, recreation, and interesting facts. I hope you have fun learning about the Grasslands region!

Do you do know where the Grasslands region is located in Alberta? First, the Grasslands are located in the southwestern corner of Alberta. Next, the Grasslands has cities like Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, and Calgary. Thirdly,the Grasslands region covers about 14% of Alberta. Now you know where the Grasslands region is located.

Welcome to how the climate affects the grasslands region. First, due to the dry, windy climate of the region, there are large areas where tree species can’t survive. Then, the climate of the Grassland area is warm, dry and extremely windy due to the southern location and the nearby Rocky Mountains. Next, weather systems usually come from the west over the Rockies, dropping most of the rainfall in the interior of BC. Furthermore, Chinooks are warm winds that come from the mountains. There are a lot of different jobs in this area. Taking care of animals, farming, and the oil and gas industry are the most popular jobs in the Grasslands. Most of this area is used for crop growth or ranching. Cows make milk, cheese, butter, ice cream, and meat. Pigs are also used for meat like bacon. Oil and gas wells are also an industry in the grasslands. They give people lots of jobs. People never give up on their jobs. There are many animals in the Grasslands. There are coyotes, burrowing owl, rattlesnakes, and pronghorn antelope. Coyotes are easily seen in this area, however, you won't see rattlesnakes as easily. If you see either a coyote or a rattlesnake do not go near them. The swift fox and black-footed ferret used to live in the Grasslands, but they are now missing from the area. Coyotes are happy to be left alone. I hope you enjoyed learning about the wildlife in the grasslands region.

Did you know there are many different types of vegetation in the grasslands region? First, did you know dry land sedge and needle grass are the different types of grass found here? Next, the lodgepole pine tree is natural and the tree symbol of Alberta. Then, most of the plants in Alberta's grasslands were normal plants until the land was used for farms. Many interesting plants grow in this region.

Do you know there are many interesting things do in the grasslands area? First, some interesting things are, camping, skiing ,fishing, hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Did you know people mostly camp in this area? In the grasslands you can find fossils all over the earth.The most fossils are found in National Park. I hope you enjoyed learning about recreation!
