What is Classroom by Securly?
Securly Classroom is a cloud-based classroom management tool for Chrome, giving teachers new freedom to guide, monitor and communicate with students during in-person or remote learning. All Jeffco K-12 teachers have access to premium Securly Classroom accounts. This tool is able to monitor student @jeffcoschools.us accounts on PCs, Macs, and Chromebooks. It does not work on mobile devices: cell phones iPads.
Home & Classroom: What's the Difference?
Jeffco has 2 tools, developed by Securly, to monitor student online behaviors. Check out this comparison chart of Securly Classroom and Securly Home to learn about the difference between both tools! As expected, Securly Home is used by families at home and Securly Classroom is used by educators at school to monitor student behaviors.

Securly Home only impacts students while they are on home and public networks. Jeffco will override parent settings in Securly Home when students connect to district wifi. However, this is an important fact for our remote teachers to understand, as remote students will primarily be using their home or public wifi, not district wifi.

If students are experiencing blocks when trying to get to websites at home, and they are not in an active Securly Classroom session monitored by a teacher, the family has likely applied site or category blocks in Securly Home. Families needing support may call the family hotline for help with Securly Home: 303-982-3438
On Which Devices does Securly Classroom Monitor Students?
Securly classroom is a cloud-based tool that connects to students' @jeffcoschools.us Google accounts. In order to be monitored by Securly Classroom, students must be logged into Chrome at the browser level with that account. Securly Classroom will not monitor other web browsers like Edge, Firefox or Safari. Students can be monitored on PCs, Macs and Chromebooks. Securly is not able to monitor iPads or cellphones.

Keep in mind that if using a PC or Mac, students will still have access to other applications and features of that device. Securly Classroom monitors and impacts activity on the Chrome browser only.
What is the Securly Extension?
When logged into Chrome using their @jeffcoschools.us account, students will now notice that they have the Securly Classroom extension pushed to their devices. This extension is what allows teachers to monitor that account. If students do not see the extension in their browser, they can click their grey puzzle piece in the extension bar and pin it to provide easy access.

When a class session is not active, the extension will be grey. When it is active, it will be colorful and students will receive a message on their screen, letting them know they are being monitored. Students will use this extension to raise their hand to indicate they need support or they may also use it to initiate a chat with their teacher, provided the teacher has enabled this setting at the start of class.
