ASL Colloquialisms and Slang Colloquialism is a word, phrase, or other form used in informal language mostly in non-written expression (whether signed or spoken) or in informal written expression, such as text messages.

People who are part of the deaf community normally don’t associate with others who are deaf. They aren’t interested in learning more about Deaf culture and barely know how to sign. They either have hearing loss or can’t hear at all. They also have not attended a school for sign language or deaf people.&nbsp;

People who are a part of the Deaf community are very educated in many aspects of the Deaf community. They are fluent in sign language and have or still attend a deaf school. They are a strong member of the Deaf community. &nbsp;

Welcome to the ASL Club Festival of Cultures Presentation

Two beings stuck together Two breaths, one unity As they lived in their own struggles together They knew each others feelings, almost in a way that was impossible to believe The secret behind this man made mystery was language These very set of words helped the two to grow strong Each movement of its vowels helped shape the future of their lives But as more and more people knew about this phenomenon, they were opposed The opposition they had given was wildly against the two beings And as conflict between two groups rose higher and higher, a hole was spotted A hole of openness was discovered, a path to victory And so the group of people decided to come together at the very right time Once they appeared beside the two beings, they separated into two groups

The movement that was once limited had now been held against the wills of the two beings As each group pulled each being They pulled and pulled and pulled But … there was no success The only spark that was released from their accomplishment was this separation Beforehand, the two beings were stuck together like clay And they were close to the point they could see each others facial expressions every second But once until they were pulled, it was as if rubber had formed The language that was once stuck within the beings had now been stretched away Away, away, away And now The two beings had two separate breaths at two separate times They moved in separate movements and last of all They spoke in separate languages

What is it? The difference between Capital D in Deaf and lowercase d in deaf is that Deaf is associated with culture meanwhile deaf is associated with being medical.&nbsp;

Some ASL colloquial words and phrases are commonly known and well-spread, such as KISSFIST, TRUE+BIZ, and so on. Few other slang words may be known only to the "core insiders".
