Cultural awareness and cultural sensitivity are crucial concepts in today’s world and in tourism, of course. They ground our interaction with others with understanding, tolerance, and empathy rather than judgment.

Travelling opens our mind and heart and gives us insights into new, inspiring cultures. Attending festivals and fairs, visiting gardens, historic sites, national parks, museums, watching sports… oh! the realm of entertainment and joy. We cannot go there…yet! 11PT takes you there, though. To Ireland…

HAPPY SAINT PATRICK'S DAY!
“The mind, once stretched by a new idea, never returns to its original dimensions”

Saint Patrick

History
St. Patrick's Day is a celebration of Irish culture that has expanded to several countries in the world from the Irish composition.
So that the celebration would not be overshadowed by the sacrifices of Lent, the Catholic Church lifted these restrictions on the date, making it a time for the Irish people to celebrate with hearty food, music, parties and drinks.
Saint Patrick's Day takes place on March 17th, the date on which the anniversary of the death of Saint Patrick, the patron saint of the European country, is remembered.
Currently, this is Ireland's biggest and most celebrated public holiday.
St. Patrick's Day emerged in 1903 as a religious commemoration of the life of this holy man.
But the celebration as we know it nowadays, would still take time.
The traditional pubs did not open on this holiday and only actively participated in the St. Patrick's party in 1970, which was much more encouraged by the local breweries.
It always took place on March 17th,which equals to the anniversary of his death. However, the date always fell in the middle of Lent, which is already a period of behavioral restrictions for Catholics.

Who was Saint Patrick?
Saint Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland and its national apostle. Surprisingly, the patron wasn’t Irish, he was born during the fifth century in Romain Britain, and brought to Ireland at the age of 16 enslaved by a group of Irish raiders.

He was credited with bringing Christianity to the Irish people, which is why his name was given to the traditional Christian holiday.

Since his death, many legends and myths have surrounded the Saint, the most famous: how he explained the Holy Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) using the three leaves of a native Irish clover, the shamrock.
Symbols
Three leaf clover
Celtic cross
In order to convert the Celtic people into Catholics,
Leprechauns
This plant was already considered by the native Irish people (Celts) as a symbol of good luck. And was later glorified by Saint Patrick. God would be like the three-leaf clover: a unity that is divided into Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
In Celtic culture, where the
Patrick had to adopt the strategy of adapting certain symbols. That's how the transition of religion happened in a friendly way. For this purpose, he would have united the Catholic cross with the solar cross (Irish origin) to create the Celtic cross that is used on this special occasion in the feast of St. Patrick's Day.
Irish people came from, leprechauns are a kind of good-natured elves who have repaired fairy shoes.
The Saint Patrick's Day party has rescued this figure from Irish folklore as a way of remembering the origin of the people.
