Fontana dell'Elefante

The Elephant fountain is a monumental work created between 1735 and 1737 by the architect Giovanni Battista Vaccarini. It is located at the center of the Piazza del Duomo in Catania .

Its main element is a statue of black basalt depicting an elephant , commonly called u Liotru and considered the emblem of the Sicilian city .
