The SDGs are a way to transform the world into a better and healthier place. Achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is a great challenge for humanity. Each one of us needs to do their part and become a sustainability change-maker! It’s urgent to take action! Young people have an important role to play and they require knowledge, skills, values and attitudes that empower them to contribute to sustainable development. Through a PBL approach we discussed the SDGs to find out if the world as you know it can still be saved.

At AENG (PT), students were challenged to take a pledge. Most students commited to turning off the tap while brushing their teeth or washing their hands, as well as never flush household hazardous materials.

At 4th Glyfada JHS, Greece we calculated our water footprint with two calculators. We compared the results with the US average. The students commited in reducing their water footprint. Here are our measurements:

To provide clean water and better sanitation for all, students at Aletta-Haniel-Gesamtschule  did their part for sustainability by choosing a task to accomplish. As a result, most pledged to turn off the water taps when brushing their hands or teeth and not to flush trash or hygiene items down the toilet.

On 13 May, the first "Urban Zero" festival took place in Duiburg-Ruhrort, organised by the Haniel company with the aim of making this district the first climate-neutral one in the world. Our school, the Aletta Haniel Comprehensive School, which is located in the heart of Ruhrort, had the opportunity to make its contribution.&nbsp;

In November students participating in the project had the opportunity to visit a former pyrite mine. This mineral was exploited for the use of sulfur, a raw material for the production of sulfuric acid used in the manufacture of fertilizers. The mine was closed in the late 1980s and was converted in a Ciência Viva Science Center inaugurated on 2010. Students learned about projects, like RELOUSAL and Life RIBERMINE, that boosted the environmental, social and economic rehabilitation of the Lousal mining village.

We celebrated International Day of Forests by participating in a postcard contest promoted by a Portuguese NGO - FAPAS.

Marine pollution and plastic litter disposal must be drastically reduced if marine and coastal ecosystems are to survive. A deeper look and the need for decision-making in this regard is one of the goals to be achieved with this SDG.

At IES Sabina Mora, we left in each class a plastic bottle in which the students had to leave the plastic caps there, some of them decided to participate individually or in pairs.There was a winner who was the one who individually collected 493 caps.

This SDG aims not only to reduce the degradation of natural habitats and the loss of biodiversity but also to end deforestation. Furthermore, another objective of this SDG is to combat the desertification of rural areas and the possibility to recover degraded land and soils.

At EFFL, one of our actions regarding SDG14 and SDG 15 was the garbage collection activity around the Porsuk River. After cleaning the environment, the water taken from the Porsuk River was examined in biology and chemistry classes.

At AENG (PT), students were challenged to sow or plant and share it in a padlet.

Integrated by Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Solid Waste Evaluation facility was visited. Information about recycling and disposal processes carried out at the facility was obtained. Mechanical separation unit was visited. Inspections were made in the banana production greenhouse fed with solid waste compost. The facility also generates electrical energy from solid waste. The works carried out at the facility not only support terrestrial life in relation to SDG 15, but also prevent the contamination of groundwater, SDG 14 also supports aquatic life.

From December to the middle of February, class 9C worked on climate change, environmental protection, and climate issues in their Social Sciences lessons. Within the central topic&nbsp;"Climate Change - Facing Challenges Together and Actively Shaping the Future", with the help of the "Future Workshop" method, the students put their theoretical knowledge into practice.

During a three-day project, our pupils went in-depth into the topic of sustainability in Duisburg, where the school is situated. On 3 December an Open Day took place where the whole school community, parents, future pupils, and all visitors were welcomed with open arms on this day to raise awareness of our surroundings.

Reducing and even limiting global warming, taking climate protection initiatives, and supporting 50 emerging and developing countries until 2025 in the implementation of their climate goals are some of the measures advocated by this SDG.

At the "Youth, Sports, Scouting and Enviroment" Festival, the students of EFFL raised awareness on SDG 12. A lottery was held among the students who participated by writing

solutions, like: - The importance given to recycling and household waste should be increased and awareness should be created in the society.

- Food should not be wasted. - Electronic waste should be collected properly. - Citizens should be warned about the efficient use of groundwater. - More attention should be paid to the recycling of the packaging of packaged food products. Students had fun, learned and gained awareness.

Students from the Aletta-Haniel-Gesamtschule but also by children from a Kindergarten in a nearby town (Moers) were encouraged to contribute to a better and healthier world through upcycling.

At AENG (PT), students were challenged to write acrostics drawing attention towards a responsible consumption.

Informative activities regarding SDG 12 and SDG 13 were discussed in the visual arts class at our school, focused on responsible production and consumption. Further conversion studies were carried out. For the theater play of our school called "The Comedy of Mistakes", decorations were made with waste materials.

At the "Youth, Sports, Scouting and Enviroment" Festival, the students of EFFL also raised awareness on SDG 13. Recommendations made by the students: - recycling should be internalized; - public transport should be encouraged; - natural energy sources should be consumed instead of fossil fuel consumption; - build sustainable cities; - the relationship between climate and human behavior should be explained to all peoples from an early age.

In order to contribute to SDG 14 and SDG 15, we designed a system that collects raindrops. Rainwater is more valuable than supporting terrestrial life. contributes to the cycle of natural life. Therefore, rain pools are supportive in supporting both underwater life and terrestrial life.

At the "Youth, Sports, Scouting and Enviroment" Festival, the students EFFL were informed about SDG 14.

In order to raise awareness about SDG12 and SDG13 in our school, a board was prepared describing the destruction times of wastes in nature.

In 2022 we started commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Students visited the virtual exhibition <a href="https://www.un.org/en/exhibits/exhibit/photography-4-humanity-2022">Photography 4 Humanity</a> and shared their feelings about it.

At our schools we have continued the work we began last year with the project Climate Justice. There are spots to collect batteries and small electronic devices, as well as cork stoppers.

On 12 June, students went to the beach and had the opportunity to surf - Surf Day. Let's protect the oceans (SDG 14)!

On 24 March, four students participated in a cleaning action at Miradouro Monte Agudo. This was an activity promoted in colaboration between the school and Junta de Freguesia de Arroios (parish council).&nbsp;

On 14 February, students participated in the Global Women’s Breakfast, themed “Breaking Barriers in Science”. In Portugal the event was organised by Sociedade Portuguesa de Química around the theme Oceans that break barriers. We celebrated International Day of Women and Girls in Science and remembered 2022/2023 as the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development. Our breakfast was made up of tea and regional sweets.

It was a successfull action, as we collected three big bags of all kind of waste, as well as we raised awareness to the pollution problem.
