INT.FRONT DOOR-MORNING
INT. HOSPITAL- AFTERNOON

AIN and ALYSSA are hugging in front of the front door. AIN is 18 years old and has a suitcase beside him. There’s a taxi cab parked in front of the house. Both AIN and ALYSSA look emotional.
ALYSSA
Are you sure you’ll be alright?

AIN
Of course Mom! You raised me after all. *beep* has got nothing on me!

(The whole scene freezes)

AIN (V.O)
No that wasn’t a glitch. That isn’t where the story starts. Rewind please!

(All characters and props are removed from the stage)

A tired woman is laying back in a hospital bed after giving birth.
A nurse gives the baby to the mother so that she can hold him for the first time.
AIN (V.O)
Alright, pause! This is where everything begins. See that baby? That’s me. The woman holding me is my mom. We’ve gotten through everything together. But now I’m getting ahead of myself. Play, please.

(Everyone starts moving.)

NURSE
Congratulations! Its a boy!

ALYSSA
(looks down at the baby in her arms)
You're going to be a handful aren't you?

NURSE
(running after LINDA)
Miss? Miss? Excuse me Miss? You are not supposed to go in that room! It's for immediate family only?!

LINDA
That's my grandson! If I want to see him I'll see him!

ALYSSA
(sighs tiredly)
Here comes trouble.

AIN (V.O.)
Pause! (Everyone stops moving) I just want it on record that “trouble” is an understatement! (speaking faster, rage) Linda is nothing but a hag too busy meddling where she shouldn’t to notice that she’s the problem! SHE IS SUCH A *beep* *beep* (sighs) Right, sorry no profanity. You just watch the rest of this scene while I go calm down. Play!

(Everyone starts moving again)

(ALYSSA looks down at her son)
I should name you before dear mother-in-law tries to do it herself. Anthony? No. Artemis? Hmm too feminine. What about Ain? (baby laughs)

INT.KITCHEN-SIX MONTHS LATER
Alright, Ain it is.

ALYSSA walks into a well lit kitchen while being shouted at by someone on the phone. AIN is sitting in a highchair swatting at minute dust mites in the air.

ALYSSA
Lin- (muffled shouting) If you could just let me (muffled shouting) Oh whatever(Ends call). Wow Linda is really in fine form today. It's like she thinks Ain will die the moment she looks away.

AIN(V.O)
Pause! (Everyone stops moving) Let’s talk more about Linda. Self-proclaimed grandmother, Linda is my father’s mother who didn’t agree to the marriage between Mom and Father. Apparently, Mom was too poor to be anywhere near her family. No matter what Mom did she was still blatant and unrelenting with her disapproval. At some point, Mom recognized it as a loss cause and stopped letting herself be pushed around.

It is only Mom’s considerable will power that kept Linda from taking me away to be raised in some ancient mansion somewhere. Things were tough for Mom. But I’d like to think that I was one the happy things in her life. Play!

AIN
(gurgles happily)
(knocks baby food jar off high chair tray)

ALYSSA
(rushes to clean up)
C’mon Ain. This is the 4th time you’ve done that this week. I know this stuff probably doesn’t taste good to you but you have to eat it. Its not like I can give you bacon or eggs. Or can I? (ponders thoughtfully while getting another jar of baby food)

AIN
(kicks feet)

ALYSSA
(opens baby food jar)
Okay,Ain. All you have to do is eat a jar’s worth. So here comes the airplane!

AIN
(Distressed baby noise)
(smacks spoon out of ALYSSA’s hand)

ALYSSA
(stares shocked)
Hey! That wasn’t very nice Ain. You’re going to eat this food.
(cleans and gets another spoon)
Now open up!

AIN
(angry baby noises)
(smacks the spoon out of ALYSSA’s hand again)

ALYSSA
(stares at spoon on the floor then turns back to AIN)
Oh it’s on mister.
(cleans off spoon and scoops out more baby food)
