The Astoria Column is 125 feet tall and is covered on the outside by a Pictorial frieze that depicts Astoria.

On the marine discovery cruise I learned how to tell a girl crab from a boy crab. the boys usually have a long narrow shape on their shell while the girls have a wide semi circle on the bottom.

Cannon Beach is most well known for haystack  Rock. It is sometimes called the worlds largest intertidal rock in the world.

Alex is the hunter, Mika is a lion that is killed, and Syd and I are Lions trying to protect ourselves. :D

This quest was very fun. My team, Annie, Baz, Sidney, Adam, and Megan all worked together to complete the quest. We all had different jobs and each played a part to be successful. Next time I think we could work better by listening more to each other and trusting our instincts. We did end up arguing a bit over where to go, but in the end we found our way. This quest was beautiful it was at Yaquina head park and was near the beach.

Hatfield Marine Science Center R.O.V. Challenge

The R.O.V challenge was very interesting and fun to do. My group Kaia, Lucio, Baz, and James all worked together to complete this challenge. At first I was very confused. We had to create a remotely operated vehicle. We drew out our plan for the frame, we decided on a rectangle like shape. We then assembled it all together. Overall, it operated pretty well. Next tme I think I would make it smaller so that it would be easier to maneuver.

Columbia River Maritime Museum First Nations Section

The chinookan people lived  in the lower Columbia region way before European settlers. Before European contact they were a part of an inter tribal trade network that was all along the river and coast. A big part of the Chinookan peoples culture was the western red cedar. Their lives may have been interrupted by the Europeans and their way of life changed drastically.  Many of the chinnokan peoples skills and traditions are being revitalized by their descendants. 

Hatfield Marine Science Center Estuary Investigation

The world needs more citizen scientists  to determine and answer the simple questions we ask everyday. It is important that people explore the earth and learn about our planet. They design experiments, collect data, and solve problems. This experiment was really fun because we got to be citezen scientists and measure out different sizes of different shrimp. 

Columbia River Maritime Museum Crossing the Bar Section

I don’t think I would cross the bar, it looks very dangerous and difficult. It would be incredibly scary and there is no certain reason I would want to.  Many ships crashed and I would probably be very ill or Hurt from being tossed around.

Depoe Bay is known as the smallest navigatable harbor. On March 11, 2011, the port was damaged by a tsunami caused by an earthquake off the coast of Japan.

\I think that wolf haven is a very important sanctuary because it protects a variety of different wolves with sad backgrounds and it raises awareness about their helpful impact on our ecosystem. Here they want to educate people on the ecosystem and nature in general, they think it is important that even if you do not like wolves you should know how they keep the ecosystem balanced. Here at wolf haven it is a very Hands off sanctuary. They want to put the needs of the wolves before their own making sure that they are comfortable and safe. I learned about the different wolves and the praries. We found out they they have controlled forest fires every 5 years to that the forest does not grow right over the prarie. Overall, i had a really good time at wolf have we leaned so much. It was really interesting to learn more about the impact that the wolves have on nature. 

The Yaquina head rocks are pretty rare, they are unique to the facility and cannot be replaced. They are an important part of the beach and park it would be not fair to take rocks from the beach. If everybody did that there would be no rocks left. 

The glass lens at yaquina head measures about 9 feet tall. This lighthouse is 162 feet above the sea. One or two assistants kept constants watch on the lighthouse and were always maintaining the facilities.

Yaquina head lighthouse was built in 1872-73. This lighthouse is the tallest along Oregons shores to signal danger warnings to mariners. It is the third oldest lighthouse in Oregon. It took nearly two years to complete the lighthouse.

Hatfield Marine Science Center Speedy Science

For our crab experiment we decided that are variable would be size. First we identified each crabs gender. Then we decided how we would design our experiment. We took a pipe like tube and put each crab at the start and timed them start to finish. We thought that the bigger crabs would be faster, but our hypotheses is was wrong, the smaller crabs were faster.

Tillamook creamery was founded here in Oregon because Of its climate. To make cheese you needed cows, so Oregon was a great place for farming and for the cows to stay and produce milk. It’s location and its Predictable climate made it a suitable place to start a cheese company.

Hatfield Marine Science Center Visitors Center

In the visitor center at the Hatfield marine museum there is a tsunami machine to replicate the after effects of a tsunami. It is important to have this machine here ecpecially because this is a tsunami zone and it is important that people know how strong the waves can be and how big the impact would be. 

I really hope to see lots of different kinds of fish because I love learning more about them and seeing the different colours that they are. Maybe I will find some fish in the tide pools at yaquina head park or some of the other beaches .

I am most excited to go to yaquina head beach because I love the ocean and I think it will be cool to search the small tide pools there and see all the different creatures. 

Travelling South with a stop at Cabela&apos;s!

This is my favourite video because it shows us going over one of the longest bridges in North America. I took i time lapse to show how long it takes, and i really enjoyed the view of the Columbia river. This is also were we first entered Oregon 

At fort stevens national park I learned about my different kinds of canons. One in particular that stood out to me was the battery Pratt. The battery Pratt used roughly 100 ponds of gun powder. It was so big it used 35 people to work it and they had to shoot three bombs in under 1 minute. This canon could shoot 6 miles far and was on a swivel of 180 degrees. It was hidden from the other side and was not visible to other ships.

Activities like like this are important to smalls towns because it provides community and it brings people together. It helps support family owned businesses just like highl life adventures.
