In the beginning, when the world was new, there was a sandy, rocky savannah, where many beautiful creatures lived and flourished. These animals talked and laughed as they enjoyed the beautiful new world, building dens and homes, drinking fresh, cold water and playing together. However, there was one animal who did not join in the fun: The Hyena.

However, there was one animal who did not join in the fun: The Hyena.
Sullen and bad-tempered, Hyena stalked through the dusty plain, growling at anyone who dared to speak to her. She never played, never talked to other animals and never, ever laughed. She spent most of her time tucked away in her den, only coming back out again to hunt and have a drink. This made the other animals worry, as they wanted to make the Hyena laugh, to show her how fun it is to have fun and play.

And so the Cheetah, who was the hyena’s closest friend, hatched a plan: “We shall each have a turn at making the Hyena laugh,” she explained “One of us is sure to succeed!”
