Open Evening
On Tuesday 25th September, we held our Annual Open Evening, where Year 6's come to our school to look around and experience what the Academy has to offer. The evening was very productive and all students thoroughly enjoyed themselves!
A big thank you to all those students that took part in the Open Evening including those students who gave up their free time on a Saturday and Sunday to promote our Open Evening in the Arndale Centre.

'Thank you to all the amazing students who helped make this event such a great success.'
~Ms Stevens
On Wednesday 19th September The Power Of Muzik came to perform to all year groups. Within their incredible original songs, they delivered some very powerful messages about how we can stay safe online. This group included:
Huw Roberts, Michael Rice, Luena Martinez, Asher Knight, Denis Coleman, Angel Mac and Reece Wells.
"The Power of Muzik was founded by celebrity vocal coach Cece Sammy, mentor to stars of The X Factor and The Voice. They have joined forces with children’s charity Barnardo’s to release a new charity single in an effort to combat bullying."
~ The Power of Muzik

The charity track, titled "Bruised", was released on 13 April 2018 and follows recent research revealing that 40% of young people have been bullied within the last 12 months. It aims to act as an empowering message of hope for victims of bullying. All proceeds from the sale of the single will go to Barnardo’s to help support and transform the lives of the UK’s most vulnerable children.

Career's Fair
On Wednesday 3rd October we held our first Career's Fair. This was a fun/interactive event held in the sports hall, mainly focusing on supporting year 9, 10 and 11 with their future pathways into education and training. Local colleges and 6th forms gave loads of information on higher education, further education and apprenticeships. Alongside this, there were employers and alumni engaging with the students about jobs and career paths available to them.

'Alzheimer's and Me'
In her assembly, Jazmin Anscomb told us the story about her Granddad; John Albert Anscomb and her Grandma. She told us all about Alzheimers and Dementia, including her Grandad's journey through Alzheimers.
Dementia is the decline of memory loss or skills.
Alzheimer's affects people so severely that they can't eat, drink, walk etc.
In the UK alone, there are 850,000 people with Dementia. It is estimated that by 2025, there will be 1 million people with Dementia.
Jazmin has already raised £200 for St Wilfreds, Alzheimers and Dementia research. Jazmin is also taking part in more charity events and she has asked if anyone has any ideas, to email her.
'He had a peaceful death and the way he passed was the best possible way for him to go in that situation. I've had a lot of support which I'm extremely grateful for!' ~Jazmin Anscomb.
