Wednesday 28th of February was Mr Pailthorpe's, our school's head teacher for the past 10 years, last day at this school so on the Monday just before he left, he posted a farewell letter on the academy website.
It reads:
Dear Parents, Students and Staff,
As you will have seen in my message to you at the end of term, I have recently completed ten years as Headteacher and Principal of The Eastbourne Academy and its predecessor school. During that time, with your help and support, we have seen a huge improvement in performance in almost every respect.
We have been recognised by Ofsted as a Good school for the past three inspections and our students now do better than at any time in the history of this school or its predecessors on this site. To build on this success, last academic year we agreed that the future development of The Academy would be well served by joining the Swale Academies Trust, which would give us access to a much larger network of school improvement.
It reads:

It is therefore with a mixture of sadness and pride that I announce that it is my intention to leave my post at The Academy on 28th February 2018. I will be taking on more work as an Ofsted Inspector and would like to be able to pursue my other interests while knowing that The Academy is in safe hands and will continue to grow in strength as part of a Multi-Academy Trust.
I would like to pay tribute to the passion and commitment of the staff, governors, parents and especially the students in having achieved all this progress.
I wish The Eastbourne Academy the very best for the future and it will always retain a special place in my heart.

There are opportunities to find out more about Ms Steven's vision and values for the Academy. There was a Meet the Principal event taking place on Tuesday 27th March between 5pm -6pm. There was a short presentation, followed by light refreshments and time for an informal discussion. There will be one of these evenings each term on a different topic if you couldn't attend this one. World Book Day
World Book Day was on the Thursday 1st March 2018 so we celebrated by reading at the beginning of every lesson on Thursday and Friday. You should have had a book to read or using DEAR Google Classroom. (The DEAR Google Classroom is: dhlsbl)
The tutors handed out a World Book Day token worth £1, these tokens are a gift from your bookseller! To buy with these vouchers there were FIVE phenomenal full-length books by FIVE phenomenal authors that are worth £2.50 or £1.50 with your token!
The 5 books worth £2.50 were:
'An Abundance of Katherines' by John Green,
'Fly by Night' by Frances Hardinge,
'Gangsta Rap' by Benjamin Zephaniah,
'I Have No Secrets' by Penny Joelson,
and 'Summoner - The Novice' by Taran Matharu.

This cooking clubs a fully funded cooking club open to all KS3 students and even parents! It's in room 107 on Tuesday's after school from 14:50pm - 16:30pm with Mrs Simpson.
Pupils can sign up with Mrs Simpson, via email or come and come and collect a letter from Mrs Simpson before the 15th March 2018.
Mrs Simpson has changed the date from Wednesday's to Tuesday's as some students have scholars to attend.
Cooking club is running for 2 terms and for 5 weeks a term:
Club no 2. starts on Tuesday 17th April - 15th May
Club no.3 starts on Tuesday 5th June -2nd July.

St. Wilfred's Easter Egg Raffle
To raise money for St. Wilfred's Hospice, Darwin's chosen charity, there is Easter Egg raffle. To purchase 1 raffle ticket you to pay 20p a ticket or £1 a strip!
Darwin raised a grand total of £145.43 from selling raffle tickets.
Mufti for Miss Williams
Have you got anything for us to put in the newsletter?
As you will know, we had a mufti day on Wednesday 21st March in aid of Franklin's charity 'Meningitis Now!' and an amazing total of £522.32 was raised. Some of you may know the reason why Franklin chose to support the Meningitis Now charity as a community. This is because in 2015, Miss Williams, a brilliant member of staff, and an amazing friend of the Franklin Community sadly passed away from this infection. It was very unexpected and very tragic however, it has helped us realise how serious meningitis can be and that by donating your £1 you are helping to fight the impact that Meningitis has on our lives.
"Miss Williams was full of life, and passion for the subject she taught. She was full of creativity that burst out of her. She wanted everyone to do well.I feel sorry for the students that were deprived of the opportunity to be in her class due to her premature passing. I miss her laugh."
