La Foca e il Gabbiano

Shе lоved tо wаtch him sоar thrоugh thе skу.Theу bоth lovеd tо еat lоts оf tinу fish.In summеr, thе sеagull аnd thе seal mеt in thе bаy. Thеy tаlked а lоt. Thеy tаlked аbout thе mоon, аnd thе tidеs, аnd thе ships оn thе оcean.Thе sеagull tоld jоkes аnd thе whаle lаughed. Thе seal sаng sоngs and danced, while thе sеagull criеd.

“Un giorno potrai venire nell’oceano a conoscere la mia famiglia,” disse la foca.
“E tu potrai conoscere i miei amici sulla terraferma,” disse il gabbiano. Era tutto perfetto.
Ma il mondo non smette di girare solo perché un gabbiano e una foca si innamorano. L’estate diventò autunno, e l’autunno diventò inverno. L’oceano divenne freddo, e tutte le foche andarono in cerca di acque più calde.

"One day, you can come to meet my family in the ocean," said the seal.
‍"And you can meet my friends on the land," said the seagull.
Everything was perfect.
But the world does not stop turning just because a seagull and seal fall in love. Summer became autumn, and autumn became winter. The ocean became cold, and all the seals left in search of warmer waters.

“Vieni con me dove ci sono acque più calde,” disse la foca. “È un posto meraviglioso. Fa sempre caldo, e ci sono tantissimi pesci da mangiare.”
“Amo mangiare il pesce,” disse il gabbiano. “E amo te. Ti seguirò ovunque. Ma prima insegnami come essere una foca.”
“Così!” disse la foca. “Seguimi!”, e si immerse nell’acqua.
“Va bene!” disse il gabbiano immergendosi nell’acqua.
Andò sempre più a fondo. “Sto nuotando!” disse ridendo. “Sono una foca!”
Ma presto non riuscì più a respirare, e respirando a fatica ritornò in superficie. Provò a nuotare, ancora e ancora, ma ogni volta restava senza fiato.

"Come with me to (where there are) warmer waters," said the seal. "It’s a wonderful place. It's always warm, and there are so many fish to eat."
"I love to eat fish," said the seagull. "And I love you. I will follow you anywhere. But first, teach me to be a seal."
"Like this!" said the seal, "follow me!", and she dived deep into the water.
"OK!" said the seagull, and he also dived into the water.
Deeper and deeper he went. "I'm swimming!" he laughed. "I'm a seal!"
But soon he could not breathe. He returned to the surface, gasping. He tried to swim, again and again, but he ran out of breath every time.

“Non penso che un gabbiano possa diventare una foca,” disse il gabbiano. “Vieni con me, invece. Io vivo sulle scogliere. È un posto meraviglioso. È caldo e accogliente, e ogni mattina puoi vedere il sole che sorge.”
“Amo guardare il sole che sorge,” disse la foca. “E amo te. Ti seguirò ovunque. Ma prima, insegnami come diventare un gabbiano.”
“Così!” disse il gabbiano. “Seguimi!” E sbattendo le ali cominciò a volare nel cielo.
“Ve bene!” disse la foca. Chiuse gli occhi con forza e cominciò a sbattere le pinne, proprio come faceva il gabbiano. Le sbatteva sempre di più, su e giù. L’acqua schizzava dappertutto. “Sto volando,” disse sorridendo. “Sono un gabbiano!”

"I don't think a seagull can become a whale," said the seagull. "Come with me instead. I live up on the cliffs. It is a wonderful place. It's warm and cosy, and every morning you can watch the sun rise."
"I love to watch the sun rise," said the whale. "And I love you. I will follow you anywhere. But first, teach me to be a seagull."
"Like this!" said the seagull. "Follow me!",and he flapped his wings and soared into the sky.
"OK!" said the whale. She squeezed her eyes shut and flapped her fins, just like the seagull. She flapped more and more, up and down. Water splashed everywhere. "I'm flying!" she laughed. "I'm a seagull!"

Ma quando aprì gli occhi, si accorse che non stava volando. Era ancora nell’acqua. Provò a volare, ancora e ancora, ma non ci riuscì.
“Non penso che una foca possa diventare un gabbiano,” disse la foca.
‍“Tu non sai volare, io non so nuotare. Dove possiamo andare a vivere insieme?” chiese il gabbiano.
“Resteremo qui – tra le onde!” disse la foca.
Ma il gabbiano scosse la testa con tristezza.
“A te piace nuotare sul fondo dell’oceano,” disse. “È la cosa che ti piace di più. Qui non sarai mai felice.”
“E a te piace volare e volteggiare nel cielo,” disse la foca. “È la cosa che ti piace di più. Qui non sarai mai felice.”
