Information about the project
During the 2022-2023 school year, the European e-twinning educational project entitled "Teenagers discover the benefits of reading books" took place at Anavyssos General High School (Greece) and at C.N. Mihai Eminescu Oradea School (Romania). This project was created and coordinated by the Greek teacher Georgousi Eleni.
E Twinning is an initiative of the European Commission through which schools from different European countries, using Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), work together to achieve pedagogical, social and cultural benefits.
In this project an attempt was made to make teenagers aware of the benefits of reading books. The reason for the implementation of this program was the fact that more and more teenagers prefer to spend many hours on social media or playing electronic games and avoid reading books. However, reading books helps to develop critical skills and language, emotional and moral cultivation.
The goals of the project were the following:
1. Cultivating a positive attitude and love for books.
2. The development of students' critical and creative thinking.
3. Acquaintance and cooperation with students from European schools to promote unity and cultivate European consciousness.
4. Knowledge of writers and their work from other European countries and awareness of the quality of European culture.
5. The creation of opportunities to express opinions and ideas about the values of life that arise through students' contact with literary books.
6. The expression of students' feelings through illustration and dramatisation. Developing emotional intelligence.
7. Aesthetic cultivation of students.
8. Cultivating language expression in an indirect and experiential way.
9. Broadening the students' cognitive field.
10. Enhance socialisation through understanding of culture, social values and social problems.
11. Development of cooperative ability. Cultivating the student's ability to understand the problems and difficulties of others and to recognise the importance of cooperation and reciprocity.
Based on this reasoning, there was a collaboration between students from different countries , exchanging opinions on the importance of reading and participating in interesting activities that brought them into contact with the world of books. Specifically, they chose some literary books they liked and made digital book presentations rendering the content of the books with short summaries, images, sketches and music.
The collaboration of the students was carried out with the help of the twinspace website of the European School Education Platform (ESEP).
