How to Register by Form ERF1
You can register and update your details online at www.checktheregister.ie

You will need:
  • PPSN
  • Date of Birth
  • Eircode

And
  • Email address if you register online

You can use this form to:

  • Register to vote
Or
  • Update your details - with your PPSN, Date of Birth and Eircode

  • Make any changes to your name or address

  • If you are 16 or 17 you can pre-register and your name will be added to the register when you turn 18.

You must use this form if:

  • You do not have a PPSN
  • You do not have an email address
  • You are asked to do so by your local authority
  • You wish to update your nationality information

You can get the form from your Local Authority, your Garda Station, Library and Post Office.

You can also download the form you need from www.checktheregister.ie.
This is the City or County Council where you live.

In Dublin they are:

  • Dublin City Council
  • Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Council
  • Fingal County Council
  • South Dublin County Council

Deadline for registering to vote
Your application must be received by the local authority at least 15 days before an election or referendum.
There are lots of forms for special circumstances but the most likely one you need is ERF1.

Only complete page 2 if you do not have a PPSN or are asked to do so by your Local Authority.
You need to fill in page 1 of the form.

If you do NOT have a PPSN you will need page 2 completed by a witness.
