In the time long ago, there lived a grandma.
Apparently, she was a porcupine.
She had eaten everything there was to eat.
She looked around.
And meanwhile she cried on the beach and cried on the beach.

and birch trees grew together.
A muskrat swam to her.
“Grandma what are you saying?
Why are you crying?"

“You old tunnel nose, why is she crying then!"
It swam away.
She was crying and crying on the beach.

“Setsoo dodeenee? Dodeenee ts’e go netseh?"
“Setsoo, sekaal tleekk’e doleehoyh.”
“Nugh nekaal kkun’ ggestl kk’aant’aay.”

An otter came swimming to her.
“Grandma what are you saying? Why are you crying?"
“Grandma, climb back on my tail”
“Your tail is like a stove poker”
She was on the beach.

Doneets’e k’enohusdloon needze ghebaał.
“Setsoo dodeenee? Dodeenee ts’e go netseh?”
“Setsoo, sekaal tleekk’e doleehoyh.”
“Nugh nekaal dekenh sekkoł kk’aant’aay”. 
Tobaan etseh.

A baby beaver came swimming to her.
“Grandma what are you saying? Why are you crying?
“Grandma, climb back on my tail”
“Your tail is like a wooden spoon”
She was on the beach.

Noye’e kuh neets’e ghebaał.
“Setsoo dodeenee? Dodeenee ts’e go netseh?”
Yoonots’en, yegge ts’ebaa yeł, kk’eeyh yeł, neełteghenaadeyonh denh hukk’aa dest’aa.

A large beaver swam to her.
“Grandma what are you saying? Why are you crying?”
I want to go across where the spruce trees and birch trees grew together.

Sekaal tleekk’e doleehoyh.
”Oho’, haatlaa. Bets’eedaakkoge yeł łaats oołok yeł kk’udaa k’egheełzook.”
Kk’udaa beyeł toneedze ghebaał.
Dehoon yekaal tleekk’a hudeełkk’onh.

Climb on my tail.
”Yes, wait. I’ll get my sewing bag and clay pot.”

Now he swam to the middle of the river.
Meanwhile she built a fire on his tail.

Kk’udaa nonłe eenaadlek’ooh
dehoon “Etlebaa’!
Sekaa’!" daadeyoh, dehoon k’ełet’eh.
Setsoo todolnenh.
Taadaalggots eenh go tobaan huts’uh.
Ts’uh hodeggu honołyo.

And it was just coming to a boil out there
when he shrieked “Ouch!
My tail!” and slapped his tail.
Grandma bounced into the water.
She sank but it was close to the beach.
And so she went up the bank.
