We are kind & healthy - class 1

To finish .... some good news from last term. All our cocoons hatched and we were able to release the butterflies safely into our Forest School area.

Using real potatoes we created our own version of Supertato.

We love our Golden Ticket Reward. Playing on the i pad is a great treat.

Keep reading you are all making great progress.

We revisited our work using algorithms and programmed instructions to help us find our way around the Safari Park.

Using virtual Bee Bots on the whiteboard was great fun and helped us think carefully about the vocabulary used when giving directions.

Thank you for sharing our Class e-book. We hope you enjoyed it. We look forward to our next topic - We are Stroytellers. I wonder what wonderful adventures we will have? Have a lovely half term break.

Using our ever improving fine motor skills we cut out and assembled a moving pet figure. The class was soon filled with a variety of cats, dogs, rabbits and parrots.

After the Easter Break we returned to find that something unusual had been roaming around the school bins. It was large and brown - what could it be? Investigation led us to discover that animals had escaped from a nearby zoo and we had a friendly bear in the class. This led us to do more work on animals and their habitats. We also thought about zoos and how to build them so that this problem couldn't happen again. We enjoyed being responsible for an animal and made very good zookeepers.

We have been busy this term embedding key mathematical concepts and vocabulary including more than and less than.

Can you show your grown up how to work out two, three and even four more?  How many jumps do you need to make?

We worked with our friends to make a zoo.  We used different construction materials to build walls, fences and ponds.

We enjoyed our first assembly together, in a long while, to celebrate Michael's Day. We were proud to wear yellow to help raise money for some important causes.

Well done to our friends who got a certificate and prize for their handwriting and colouring.

The Mischievous Pea continued with his naughty tricks and was very mean to some of the other vegetables.

Some of our friends tried to help (although others found ways to trap them even more with lots of sticky tape!!!).

Look how much fun we had in Forest School!! It was great to be out in all weathers, exploring nature and getting dirty.

We had a surprise visit from bear and his friends.  He was a great listener and really enjoyed our stories (as long as he could enjoy a tasty tea party afterwards)!!

Class 1 love to read and couldn't wait to choose some new books for our Class Library. We have enjoyed sharing them during Storytime.

During the next half term we read the story of Supertato. We were surprised to come into class to find lots of peas frozen in ice. We melted and cracked the ice to set them free but unfortunately also released the Evil Pea who then caused lots of mischief in the classroom. We learnt lots about vegetables and where they come from. We even had a go at peeling, cutting and tasting them. Forest School has been a highlight and we have loved learning outside.

After all the chaos caused by the pea we needed to find a way to capture him and put him back in the freezer. The child created lots of very inventive traps using all kinds of junk.
