Once upon a time, there were two very good friends, a boy called Yao and a girl called Sita, who lived in a small village in the Ivory Coast, Africa. They enjoyed going to the local primary school together/separately and were both very creative children, always full of fantastic/useless ideas!

Do you think Global Goal 4, Quality Education For All, is important?
Why, why not?

But when they were 11 years old, suddenly Sita could/couldn't go to school anymore because her parents didn't have any money/desire to pay the secondary school fees.
She was very sad because she loved/hated studying and wanted to keep on learning less and less/more and more. Her dream/nightmare was to become an Environmental Scientist.

Yao, on the other hand, was allowed/not allowed to go to a secondary school because his parents had/didn't have enough money to pay for his education. He was very happy but felt sorry/excited that Sita could not be with him.

Do you think it should cost money to go to school? Why? Why not?

Toti thought it was very fair/unfair that lots of boys went to school while most girls had to stay at home. He believed in gender inequality/equality. Although he had no children of his own, he wanted/didn't want all the girls and boys in his village to have the same/different opportunities.

Do you agree with Toti that all girls and boys should have equal opportunities? Why / Why not? Can you give an example?

Toti had a great fear of/passion for nature and wildlife and always enjoyed sharing/keeping his knowledge with/from others. Adjoua loved gardening and growing/freezing food for their family and friends, she was an amazing cook and spoke fluent English!

Together, they saw an opportunity to help/harm Sita and decided to invite her and all the other girls who could/couldn't go to school, to come and learn/be in their home and garden.

Which of the UN Global Goals do you think their project would support? Re-visit this question at the end of the story!

When Sita found out about this opportunity, she was very excited/upset. She spent all day everyday learning all about the local/overseas environment and how to grow her own healthy/unhealthy food, with Adjoua and Toti and all the other girls in the village who couldn't go to school. They had English classes too!

One day, while Toti was teaching the students about how to keep the land infertile/fertile, Adjoua went to the Town Hall/Police Station to ask for help to make the school bigger and better....
They clearly needed more/less space, learning tools and resources and that meant that they needed/didn't need money!

They met a very special lady who worked at the Town Hall. Her name was Maimouna. She was one of the elders/youth of the village, a very wise/unwise old lady who knew many people and as a woman, especially understood women's/men's needs.
