In 2016 on a frigid Halloween night. My dog, Buddy, is hopping and running through the grass chasing the nocturnal cats. It’s getting colder but my jacket is keeping me warm enough, although Buddy doesn’t seem cold at all. He never seems bothered with the cold given how he’s almost naked.
As I was heading back home with my bag full of candy, Buddy saw a cat near a wired fence. He started to chase the cat and they went through a hole in the fence heading towards the woods. “Buddy wait, come back!” I yelled chasing after him. It was hard trying to catch up with them. Then from a distance I heard a yelp coming from Buddy, I ran faster to get to him. When I had finally caught up to him, I was out of breath and hunched over trying to steady my breathing.
When I finally looked up I saw Buddy stuck in a bear trap. His back legs were caught in between the claws and he was laying there in pain. I tried pulling at the claws to set him free but the trap was locked tight. So then I tried pushing down on the spring to release the pressure.

Eventually I was able to open some of it and I was able to slip buddy legs out the trap. Buddy winced in pain as I laid his legs on the ground. “We need to go to a hospital now!” I said panicking.
I couldn’t carry Buddy because he was too heavy, but I don't want to leave him. “Wait here buddy I'll come back for you, I promise!” I said running back to the neighborhood to get some help. As I was running through the forest short of breath I saw my neighbor next door in the distance. “HELP!!” I shouted, waving my arms frantically in the air. The neighbor turned around and saw my face wet from the tears. In shock she ran up to me and asked if I was okay and what’s going on. I told her what happened and my dog buddy went into the woods and got caught in a bear trap.
The lady asked, “you have a dog now?” looking a little confused. “You don’t remember Buddy?” I asked. The lady was sitting there lost then decided to brush it off. She finally agreed to help me and called for help on

her phone and my mother. After 5 minutes of trying to calm me down, help arrived. My mother and a police officer came up to us. “Where is your dog? Can you show us to him?” he asked. I pointed to the forest where buddy is up ahead.
My mother then came up to me and said ¨Sweetheart we don't have any dogs. I'm allergic to them, remember?¨ I looked away from her feeling guilty. ¨I know that's why I hid it from you...sorry¨ My mother then looked at and smiled, I knew she forgave me and asked me to show her where the dog is.
I finally showed them the way through the forest and we arrived at where Buddy is at. The police told me to stay with my mother and approached Buddy and started to examine him. ¨OH MY GOD!¨ The police officer yelled in terror, throwing his body back onto the ground, dropping his flashlight. Confused, my mother asked him what's wrong, grabbing the flashlight and shining it on Buddy. ¨What the-¨ she said approaching Buddy to get a closer look and to her surprise all she saw was a dog missing its insides.
My mother quickly came up to me and hugged me saying ¨ I'm sorry darling the dog is in a better place¨, she said before she started sneezing uncontrollably. In

denial, I went up to Buddy and tried to wake him but he wasn't moving at all. I then tried taking his pulse but I couldn't find one. I fell to the ground bawling my eyes out trying to wake up Buddy. My mother tried pulling me away but I resisted, after a few minutes of struggling I was forcefully ripped away from Buddy. His body only became smaller and smaller in the distance.
A few hours later the mother and daughter arrived at the house completely silent. The daughter didn't say anything when they arrived. She just looked at her mother and went up to her room to mourn Buddy’s death. The mother was about to follow after her but she decided to give her some space. The mother then went into the kitchen to make an important phone call.
After a few rings on the phone the person on the other end answered, “Hello?” the unknown person said in a sleepy tone. “Hello, Tomoki, sorry to bother you but I have a question for you.” the mother said.
