What is Ethics?

Ethics is the study of right and wrong.

Ethics affects every aspect of our lives. Acting ethically, as individuals, helps create a society where everyone is treated well and there is a clear distinction between acceptable and unacceptable behaviour.

What is Intellectual Property?

This refers to the creations of the mind: inventions, literary and artistic works and symbols, names, images and designs used in commerce.

Once you create something with your mind like a song, video or poem it automatically becomes your intellectual property.

What is Copyright?

Copyright law allows authors, musicians, artists, etc. to make money off of their labor.

It prevents others from using their work for free.

It also prevents people from altering the work without permission.

Breaking copyright law is called

“Copyright infringement”

It can have severe legal consequences.

What Rights does Copyright
Protect?

Economic Rights

The exclusive right to make money off your work and to receive money (royalties) if someone uses your work with permission.

These rights allow you to prevent anybody from using your creation (a part or the whole) in a way you do not feel is appropriate.
