Hatfield Marine Science Center R.O.V. Challenge

Our group solved the R.O.V challenge by using what was given to us, and having a plan. We designed R.O.V first, and then we built it. We ended up creating a nice small-ish robot. Our robot worked and we taped a magnet just sticking out of the bottom so that it could pick up Metal objects off of the bottom of the water tank.

Tillamook creamery was founded in this particular location because there was lots of rain, and the rain grew lots of grass. Since there was such nice fresh grass in Tillamook, the people ther got cows. Farm lands grew and the cows had lots of grass to eat. That started the production line and eventually the cheese factory was founded and a long time after that they made it a creamery because they thought they made just as much of other products as cheese. But cheese is still what they’re most famous for.

My group worked quite well together on this particular quest. Most of the quests we failed, because we didn’t look directly at the instructions. This time we actually finished the quest in a tie with another group. In past quests we would skip various instructions and this lead to us getting lost. This time we followed instructions and made it. One thing could’ve done different would’ve been we could’ve kept closer. We drifted a little bit, and some of us were several meters away from others. One of the instructions was to stay close to your teammates and we didn’t do such a good job at that.

I’m really excited to see a beaver if we do see one. Apparently they are very common in Oregon, and if so, I really want to see one. I’ve never seen a beaver before and I think that would be a really cool animal to see. I used to be obsessed with beavers when I was little, so it would be really awesome to see a real live one.

We decided to race purple crabs against green crabs. In the end purple crabs lost. The green crabs were actually quite a bit bigger. We raced two at a time and the  green one majority of the time.

I think that what inspires the people who work  at north west trek park to work there are the animals. The animals are so beautiful and natural that I think the people at wildlife just want to be around them. They are in natural habitats and they are basically just living their lives while we can watch them doing that without them being affected.

Depoe Bay is known as the smallest  navigatable harbour. On March 11, 2011 the port was damaged by a tsunami, that was caused by an earthquake off the coast of Tohuku, Japan.

I think that activities like high life adventure zip lines are important to small towns because one thing that almost every person needs is fun. Fun is an important thing to have  because when there aren’t that many things to do life gets boring.

The entire class worked together to build this whale. We all contributed to this process. We were all really good at getting all the prices to the table. We had a few problems figuring out how many ribs went on which side and where, but other than that I think we did really well.

In Fort Stevens we learned tons of stuff, for example, we learned about cannons that only appeared for a few seconds to fire, and then they disappeared behind a wall. We also toured Fort Stevens and saw different chambers where they communicated and where the lamps were. We also saw different architectural things like how the hills were a shield and things like that. A thing that I found really interesting was that Fort Stevens was actuallyattacked, unlike quite a few different Forts.

I would be willing to cross the bar but only if someone was helping me. I think that it would be even more dangerous to cross the bar without help, so I’d really want someone who knows what they’re doing, to help me not sink the boat. I think that crossing the bar would be exciting and fun but really scary. If I had the option I would 100% try crossing the bar.

This is me. I went to Oregon with my school group PLP. We had so much fun and this whole book is about that trip. We are from Vancouver and it was so cool that we got to go to Oregon. This video shown is me telling the forecast.

Columbia River Maritime Museum First Nations Section

The Chinook was the name of this particular tribe. The people of the Chinook came to Columbia thousands of years before the Europeans. They learnt skills, like how to make canoes, carpets, clothes ,baskets  and so much more! These people were part of the trade system on the Columbia river and coast. The people of chinook were First Nation people, who were here long before the Europeans.

The chinook was the name of the tribe that was here before the Europeans invaded. They were heavily impacted when the Europeans came because they were here thousands of years before. The chinook people had already learned to do several things before the Europeans showed up, they learned how to make clothes, food baskets, huts, canoes, carpets and everything else they needed. The chinook people were also part of trade systems. They had a whole system all along Columbia river.

Adaptation is when a particular species gets different features so that they can live in certain habitats. For example, barnacles adapt to different areas by sticking to certain objects. They find objects, stick to them and live there forever. Barnacles are a great example for adaptation because they all adapt to different things. Some barnacles stick to rocks, and never really move, but others stick to whales and are always on the move.

There is a tsunami machine in this visitor centre because we were in a tsunami zone. It might be helpful to others to know how the tsunami is made in case one ever hits.

My video is a video of me going down the stairs of the Astoria Column. I really like this video because it shows all 125 stairs that we walked up, and eventually down. I think that it was very interesting and I was upset that I didn’t catch the walk up. (It is a time lapse because the walk was quite long.
