Head of School Welcome

The Spring term at Treverbyn is proving to be very exciting even if the weather doesn’t feel very Spring like yet!

As many of you will have seen Mr Freckelton represented our school in the Aspire trust Connect 40 relay by cycling from Whitemoor school to Bugle and then on to Treverbyn. The children were very excited to see him and the rest of the team arrive and gave them a very warm welcome. This event will continue on Friday when the children will be undertaking their own Connect 40 challenges to raise money for Comic Relief and the Youth Sport Trust.

At Treverbyn we passionately believe in developing the whole child and try to give our pupils the opportunity to take part in as many cross curricular activities as possible. In just one half term, our pupils have represented the school at Songfest at Truro cathedral, at the Lego league final at RNAS Culdrose and at several different sporting events across the county. We are very proud of all their achievements and grateful for the support of parents and staff who help to make these things a success.

Nursery

Following on from looking at the Wildlife Artist Frans Lanting, the children went on to make masks of their chosen animal, we had some fantastic colourful ones! We celebrated St Piran's Day with Pasties for lunch and a Cornish March around the field waving our flags that we made

After watching the Daffodils start to flower, showing signs of Spring, we wanted to look at them a bit closer and paint some of our own - some children used the daffodils to paint with. World Book Day saw some lovely princesses and super hero's at Nursery. We really enjoyed reading the children's favourite stories.

Reception - Mrs Kearton

This term we have been exploring where we live. We spent time thinking about our homes, then we thought about our local area and especially about our school where we drew our own maps of the school.

We celebrated everything Cornwall looking at our county within the United Kingdom and our finale was fit and thinking about our world and universe with a space dome experience.

For every text we have explored we have developed our independent writing skills with our fun, fit and write activities. We have additionally started our Talk Through Stories Curriculum which has been a huge success in its first few weeks and the children have been very interactive and focused. Our maths progress has seen some fabulous consolidation of our numbers to 10, becoming masters of our number bonds to 5 and exploring our 3d shapes.

We also filled our star jar again this half term and we decided for a treat afternoon with movies, bikes, ice cream or hot chocolate!!

Year 1 - Miss Warn

As you can see from our photos year one have really been enjoying their art topic this half term! We have been learning about Romero Britto and pop art has been our focus. Look at our amazing pattern work!

Year 1 also loved celebrating World Book Day and dressing up as their favourite characters! They spoke so confidently about the stories they love reading.

Thank you for another great half term and all of your support with spelling and phonics practice at home! Next half term we will be preparing for the Phonics Screening Check, if you have any questions please ask Miss Warn at the door or on Tapestry!

Year 2 - Miss Philp & Mrs Robins

Year 2 have had a brilliant few weeks. They had a great time at the Eden Project learning about different foods around the world and where they come from. We thoroughly enjoyed St Piran's Day where we made our very own scones and tried a cream tea, as well as dressing up as our favourite stories from a book for World Book Day.

We have also enjoyed our Plymouth Argyle sessions this term. The children have been learning about Columbus and Shackelton and where they voyaged, linking this closely to our learning about continents and oceans. In maths we have been learning how to multiply and divide and have recently begun to learn our 2, 5 and 10x tables!

We are excited to finish the Spring term with lots of Easter activities and have started to think about all the fun we have planned for the Summer term.

Year 3 - Mrs Pearson & Mr Bray

This term, in Year 3, we have been focusing on our question 'What makes Cornwall unique?' We have tasted proper Cornish scones, made the proper Cornish way (jam on first). We have used our knowledge of maps to study our local area, read the story of The Mousehole Cat and even written our own Cornish warning tales! In History, we have began to look at the Stone Age. We have studied Skara Brae and Stone Henge and even created our own cave painting out of charcoal.

Year 3 have taken part in the 'Fishkeeper Fry' event where we have been given a fishtank with shrimp, snails and plenty of fish in to look after. The class have loved having the fish in the classroom so much that they are currently working on a formal letter to Mrs Rundle to ask to keep the fishtank for the Summer Term. All the children in Year 3 have worked incredibly hard this term and we are really looking forward to finishing with our class trip to Wheal Martyn!
