The last spike and the CPR can connect to 1. Human/environment interaction: in the way that we modified the environment by laying down big flat areas of dirt and gravel and adapted to it by building tunnels through mountains 2. Region: connecting all the different provinces of Canada.

The CPR definitely influenced Canada’s economy with the new ability to carry goods across the entirety of Canada, which quickly enhanced industries and also caused a boom in the need for coal because trains relied on it. Socially, the CPR had passenger trains which could take you so many places very quickly, which pretty much started tourism in Canada. Politically this made Canada more diverse in a way that it could spread cultures between different parts of Canada and also allow people of high power to influence more locations with speeches and visits.

I guess the development of Canada is owed to the CPR so maybe I wouldn’t be alive, if so, thanks :D

I chose this photo of downtown Calgary because it shows the infrastructure we have created and the human/environment interaction. Humans have built huge cities that fit our needs (modifying) and shaping the world around us considerably. I think this could also tie into location a little since Calgary is pretty big and usually driven through or by on the way to other places.

1. Geography is interaction with the environment. For example climate change in Calgary with its high emissions, showing how humans have impacted the environment.

2. I think Calgary is a pretty good example of adapting to the environment, like building around rivers and making bridges to facilitate the expansion of Calgary while also building around the environment and not harming it.

3. I took the photo when I woke up and I used the skills we learned in maker.

I think the chimps in the museum are good because they can connect cultures and zoos can bring in things from all over the world. You could bring in animals from different climates and habitats to give a taste of the world’s wonders. Animals are also pretty cute and could be a tourist attraction, which could boost city’s economy and improve city activity.

I think that the themes of geography and the photo could tie into: 1. Sharing different cultures and spreading some diversity. 2. Taking animals from the wild could be an example of human/environment interaction as humans modify the environment and change the ecosystems that potentially rely on/include that creature.

The zoo could promote social change by connecting different people (and cultures), an economic change by ushering in a bunch of tourists who bring in money and also increases the city’s activity.

(Sorry this one was kind of short I was sick for the zoo day so I didn’t get to go)

Frank slide disaster: at least 90 killed, and one town swallowed. (You can see the mountain which the 90 milllion tons of rocks fell off of and the rubble at the bottom)

In my opinion this highlights human/environment interaction since one of the factors for the mountain crumbling was how big the mine inside was and how that could have eventually led to the mountain falling over.

After the CPR was in place the town of Frank was doing pretty great as coal mining was a prosperous industry and they were right next to a mountain full of it! This economically developed the town and led to the mountain being scoured for coal.

The disaster was kind of sad but it affected the whole railway since that part of the CPR was blocked off.
